And i have seen people from Kalinga/Manipal earlier getting through with normal IT exp. Are they good at exaggeration?

Think a lot of laid off ppls are applying isb this year. Competition just skyrocketed

If it helps, I got rejected in R1 last intake season. 730 GMAT, 7.5 years of work exp (consulting + financial services), b.tech from an NIT. Had a virtual interview, but it didn’t go too well (had not prepared for it properly).

This year got through in R2. In terms of profile, upped my GMAT from 730 to 750, had a promotion at work (and applied with 8.5 years of work exp), and prepared for my interviews (opted offline), and while I was grilled during my interviews, it went much better than last season’s R1 as I had a lot of clarity on my goals, and was also able to talk to my panel about the alumni I had spoken to as part of my prep/research. Not sure which of these factors made the difference, or maybe all of them played a role. Hope that helps!

Not makes sense to me for not accepting a NIT grad with good gmat score n experience. I have met people from Kalinga/Manipal they are mostly not that good compared to someone from IIT/NIT. Think ISB should stop allowing alumni to take interview as they might do partiality.

I think since there has been a difficulty in placing such a huge batch in the current market conditions they might have reduced it slightly.

All R2 admits haven’t been announced yet. So for now don’t think they’ll reduce the class size and not for placements for sure.

This not a CAT-based admissions process for IIM 2 year program where it’s al objective.
There are many subjective elements there, biggest one being the interviews.

For eg you might have a great profile on paper but if the panel feels you’ve not written on your essays on your own, i.e. someone else/consultant wrote them for your, then it is a big red flag. Or in general, the answers might jot appear that structured or effective to them. Or essays don’t convey the right approach. It could be anything.
Yes, ISB needa to have stricter standards on how the interview should be conducted but let’s not play the partiality clause here

I feel it’s not very fair since interviews last anywhere between 10mins to 45 mins, which in itself is not standardized.
And 2nd , looking at stellar profiles here who got rejected ( I believe even I had a decent profile but still got rejected) , they definitely won’t be asking other people to write their essays or will lie on the SOP after achieving so much. It’s just difficult to get in as an engineer I guess sadly .

Yes, engineers are a competitive pool because of the sheer number. Regarding essays, it is the feeling you get when you interview people they’re self aware or not..that they’ve done their research or are clear about the goals or jot many other factors.
Definitely there needs to be a lot parity in th way the interviewa go but eventually it’ll still be subjective ..lot of good profiles won’t make it anda lot haven’t in the past.

I understand it must be very very tough for you guys after all the hard work. Unfortunately there are 2 choices,
- dig deep to see where it could’ve gone better and reapply.
- look at other schools if you truly think there was nothing wrong with the way your app and interview was and that ISB isn’t fair in its assessment

Might sound harsh but that’s the reality here.

Inteview was on 3rd feb virtual, i thoght it went very well as like everyone, they even appreciated my efforts, by the way i have 7.9 years of work ex in Government hospital as Medical officer n Dental surgeon. MY CTC was 12 LPA........So i dont think ISB preffered engineers nor Low LPA candidates, its all subjective i guess, there could be many reasons..may be there were more deserving profiles ..

My age was 35...that could have played a role in rejection or i didnt show the exact reasons to pursue MBA being a doctor! or may be my cGPA scores pkayed a role or ,may be my gmat focus core was not good enough to compensaTE for cgpa scores. I have lot of exta curricals as well, i led Andhra pradesh state team in National doctors cricket league for 4 yeaRS, am a proffesional cricket player , as of now playing for a club in visakhapatnam in division 3 organized by BCCI, VDCA
