Hi does ISB consider second MBA applicants?
ISB is a global standard business school. Why wouldn’t they? But you must be convincing about your need for a second MBA. It would make more sense when

1. You feel you are being pigeonholed in a specific domain for a long time after your first MBA.
2. You pursued the first MBA without any work experience, but then you gained some and you think you would appreciate the second MBA experience better (both academic and peer learning)
3. You have a strong passion for breaking into a new domain but are unable to (consider taking a few internships or side projects to build proof of why you like this area so much). Your target companies hire only from select few schools.
4. You have spent some time working after your first MBA and want to take your career global but aren’t able to. You need the network capital of a stronger MBA brand that has global reach

@shrutishrirang - Acads are good. Would like to understand your work-ex better to assess e.g. key achievements, were there promotions, did you lead teams, etc.

ExtraCurriculars are interesting, and can present good angles particularly for ISB essays.

Your post-MBA goals aren't clear, and need finetuning e.g. which target sectors/ functions/ geographies are you looking at. It'd be crucial to have a strong narrative on the skillsets/ experiences you've picked up, your career goals, and how/ why an MBA would help at this juncture.

On the GMAT front, ISB's latest published average is 720 Classic. Aiming for a 695+ GFE would be ideal.

Hope this helps some.

would you suggest any other schools that would suit- idea on post mba goals is fairly straightforward- management roles in BFSI is probably the easier way go to, would also like strategy related roles. although, if possible, would like to explore if I can bring in any kind of value from the creative synergies

with respect to work ex- first two years post qualifying was an audit senior and used to handle small teams for tier 2 level client engagements. For my stint at the 2 European IBs (working here currently) the roles did not include much of people management, but adding more value in terms of peer support and helping juniors get used to the fairly small niche of capital adequacy, helping them out with conceptual understanding, getting them used to the daily book of work etc

Hi rt.muthiah

Here's a breakdown to help you decide:

Recommendation:

ISB seems like a strong contender considering your cost-consciousness
and Asian career focus.
However, if your heart is set on a major industry switch (Product to
Consulting) and an international career, then M7 might be worth the
investment.

ISB:

1. Cost-effective: Significantly lower tuition compared to M7.
2. Faster track: 1-year program allows for quicker career advancement.
3. Strong Alumni Network: Particularly valuable in India and Asia.
4. Good fit: Your profile aligns well with ISB.
5. Placement Support: Dedicated placement support. Avg salary of 35 Lakhs.
6. Work Experience: Minimum full time experience required is 2 years.

M7:

1. Global Network & Recognition: Opens doors to international opportunities.
2. Deeper Learning & Specialization: More time for coursework and
skill development.
3. Industry Switch: Better suited to a significant career shift
(Product to Consulting). As your program duration is more than a year.
4. Work Experience: While the minimum requirement typically sits
around 2 years, having a stronger track record with more experience(5
Years) can be beneficial for your application.

Hi,

You have done good work, I am sure you would have many things to talk about in your application. It seems you have not written the GMAT or the GRE yet.  As soon as you are done with that, get to the next steps - your story.

All the best!

It's quite early/ speculatory to suggest schools, as that would require a deeper understanding of your skills/ achievements, goals and school-fitment.

Broadly though, below are the top global MBA programs for consulting/ strategy and finance careers, along with their latest hiring stats. In the Indian context, ISB, IIM A/ B/ C/ K/ L and are some of the top MBA programs that accept GMAT scores.

shrutishrirang  I have worked with many CAs for ISB and IIMs and have been doing ding analysis for many CAs recently. Happy to advise you here. For many chartered accountants, the job revolves around financial reporting, compliance and auditing. These activities are the backbone of the profession but they can sometimes limit the scope of their roles in strategic decision making, financial planning and advisory functions - areas where they can add tangible value to an organisation. Successful candidates in this category will be able to demonstrate that they have applied their expertise in more dynamic and impactful ways, contributing to business growth and innovation. Contact me if you would like to discuss schools and strategies for admission. If consulting does not appeal to you, I would suggest looking for FP&A leadership positions in organisations or Indian startups, as well as CFO-like positions in growing companies.

Best wishes

Hi shrutishrirang

Premier schools like ISB will value your diverse background,
especially your experience with Big 4. I hope you are preparing well
for your GMAT/GRE  and we wish you all the best.

As you are not interested in consulting, some of the other jobs you
can explore are:

1. Corporate Finance: This path leverages your CA background and dives
deeper into the financial aspects of a business. You could pursue
roles like Corporate Finance Analyst, where you'd be involved in
financial modeling, valuations, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

2. Investment Banking: Investment banks look for sharp individuals
with a strong understanding of finance. Your CA background and MBA
would be valuable assets in this fast-paced environment.

3. Financial Analyst: This role involves financial modeling,
valuation, and investment research. It can be a stepping stone to
other areas of finance.

@sidbishtThanks for sharing your details. I routinely work with transitioning army veterans and navy/merchant navy candidates, helping them get into top B schools including ISB and IIM A PGPX. I myself come with long experience in operations leadership and know about the career options in this area very well. Feel free to speak with me should you want deeper insights into your prospects.

On the surface, you have a good profile. You would be happy to learn that business schools have a soft spot for those who have led operations-heavy projects driving large teams at the grassroots level. I know you are not interested in consulting, but McKinsey's strategy and operations practices, every year, seek MBA graduates who have demonstrated strong operations leadership in their pre-MBA careers. These profiles remain unaffected by excessive character traits or the politics of the situation, which makes them highly sought after, especially in consulting fields that require significant personal sacrifice.

Your prior experience in people and resource management brings the right kind of transferable skills for roles in operations leadership or in supply chain post-MBA. You will have a significant advantage at top-tier consulting firms in Strategy & Operations roles, as well as in leadership development programs in leading conglomerates. If you are interested in moving into startups in senior positions, you would be a great fit for roles in supply chain analytics, product design, supply chain network design, and planning. Some of the army and navy candidates I recently worked with are now working in tier 1 strategy consulting firms after IIM A.

Feel free to speak further

Best wishes

@sidbisht - some thoughts on your profile:

1. Your work-ex and Extracurriculars present interesting angles. A good GMAT (ideally GFE equivalent of 720+) would help present the profile competitively.

2. It'd be crucial to have a strong narrative covering your experiences/ skill-sets, career goals (next point), and how/ why an MBA fits in.

3. Broadly, navy/ military professionals utilize the MBA as a launching pad to transition into the following path(s): (A) Operational leadership roles e.g. Amazon Pathways. This is a classic route for many army/ navy professionals, as it involves multiple transferable skills e.g. operational strategy & execution, stakeholder management, conflict resolution, etc. (B) Consulting roles at MBBs, big-4's, boutiques etc. Here, prior sectoral/ geographic/ functional experience e.g. know-how of logistics/ shipping sector, can help advise clients better. This path usually takes more time, energy and efforts than (A) and (C), though achievable. (C) Functional/ General management roles, in F-500 companies or start-ups. Here again, functional experience counts. For example, an army officer with solid risk-management experience transitioned to lead the risk division for a FAANG company at their Asia headquarters.

I recently worked with a candidate (40 yo), from a navy background, who received admits with scholarships at IIM-C, Warwick and EDHEC. His profile/ testimonials, among others, can be found here.

Hope this helps some. Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Hi Pradeepsix6 Happy to advise. Your profile looks solid on the surface. I have worked with folks from Suzuki recently, so happy to share my insights. Applying to the first round is key for ISB. And for IIM A PGPX, irrespective of the round, there is a huge emphasis on the interview performance and how the interview panel reads your personality. Make sure you are well-prepared to tackle any kind of challenge during the process. I have a lot of experience with operations-heavy profiles, so feel free to get in touch for guidance. A 675 on FE is not so competitive for ISB, so see if you can improve. For IIM A PGPX, it's alright since your undergrad academics are good. You did not mention your post-MBA goals. Do thorough research on what kind of roles would interest you. I find it presumptuous when operations candidates only write about the pathways leadership program for the lack of research and understanding. There are many analytical roles and opportunities that you can pursue in operations, S&O consulting, supply chain analytics, products, and business finance. The deeper you dive into researching those, the stronger your "why MBA" arguments will become. Feel free to speak.

Best wishes
