Please help to review my profile:
10th: 9.7 GPA
12th: 94.1%
Btech: NIT, NAGPUR Mechanical engineering, 7.87 CGPA
Work experience: 3yr 10 months by Apr’24
Assistant operations manager at Maruti Suzuki India limited:
- indirectly handling a team of 400 manpower in ensuring daily dispatch of 1000+ cars
- Got recognised as star performer of the year for FY23-24
Other achievements: got my research paper published in a conference and won best paper award.
GMAT FE: 675 (96th percentile)
No much extra curriculars

**correction: my work experience will be 3yr 10 months by Apr’25 (Not Apr’24)
@Pradeepsix6 - The GPA and undergrad pedigree are good. Your score is right around ISB's latest average (GFE equivalent), so if you feel you can improve it, you should.

The work-ex presents interesting angles. Some angles to have clarity on, which are crucial for a strong narrative: why MBA? why now? what are your post-MBA career goals? what transferable skills do you bring to the table?

Would need some Extracurriculars, but remember that recency and consistency are key here.

Feel free to reach out through the links below for a deeper chat.

Hi @Pradeepsix6  Happy to advise. Your profile looks solid on the surface. I have worked with folks from Suzuki recently, so happy to share my insights. Applying to the first round is key for ISB. And for IIM A PGPX, irrespective of the round, there is a huge emphasis on the interview performance and how the interview panel reads your personality. Make sure you are well-prepared to tackle any kind of challenge during the process. I have a lot of experience with operations-heavy profiles, so feel free to get in touch for guidance. A 675 on FE is not so competitive for ISB, so see if you can improve. For IIM A PGPX, it’s alright since your undergrad academics are good. You did not mention your post-MBA goals. Do thorough research on what kind of roles would interest you. I find it presumptuous when operations candidates only write about the pathways leadership program for the lack of research and understanding. There are many analytical roles and opportunities that you can pursue in operations, S&O consulting, supply chain analytics, products, and business finance. The deeper you dive into researching those, the stronger your "why MBA" arguments will become. Feel free to speak.

Best wishes

Can you please elaborate why the first round is key for ISB? Thanks.
Hi Pranjal. Please note my advice was to the specific candidate. But no matter how much B schools preach that all rounds are equally competitive, there is an edge that comes with applying early. Business schools have a good estimate of how many people they will accommodate from a particular industry/sector to maintain the diversity interest of the class. So unless a candidate has a genuine reason for applying late and still standing a solid chance of getting through due to some exceptional feature of the profile (for example, expatriation stints or the highest GMAT score in the category), there is little reason to not apply early with a well-executed application. Now, if a candidate from an overrepresented pool says with utmost belief he/she would gun for a 700+ on F.E and that may delay the application, I can understand.

Best wishes

Hi Ruvs,

You are good on the GMAT. Your undergrad academics look good- the IIT K brand is great while the CGPA looks ok. I'd train my focus on the work experience bit- but you have not provided many details here.   What is your role at AmEx and how have you contributed to your projects? The adcoms will look for achievements  (quantified preferably) and your leadership skills. As a younger applicants you may wonder how to show leadership if you haven't had any team reponsibilities. Well, taking initiative, influencing people to achieve common goals, getting people to work with you to achieve these, influencing without authority, challenging the status quo, achieving results that are bigger, better and faster than what was expected are some ways of showing leadership.
Reach out if you'd like a deeper profile discussion or if you want help on your application writing.

Thanks! Its nice to see how ISB changes essay prompts almost every year - most b-schools don't do that. What is more interesting is that the core informtion they have sought through their prompts has remained somewhat similar in the past 13-14 years that I have been tracking their essays. Essay 2 is a new one this year.  :)

Hi everyone,
Please help me with profile evaluation. I have qualified acca in record time of 1.5 years. Have a 2 year work-ex in risk consulting from Deloitte. Got a double promotion in the first six months and have received multiple awards for outstanding performance.
Have been looking after multiple family businesses into real estate, construction, Consulting and M&A firms for the last 8 months.
Gmat Score; 655 FE
Extracurriculars; I am a Kathak dancer, classical singer, and have recently started learning guitar ( 3 months ago)
I have conducted a workshop for BCom students at Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce on "Explore Consulting"
I work with an NGO ( Lila Poonawalla Foundation) as a mentor for girls from an underpriviledged background. My role is to help them surpass their difficulties and motivate them to pursue higher education.
I have worked with FPA as a CMA faculty for a cohort of 10 students.
I also mentor many college/ACCA students who come from an unconventional background in my personal capacity.

Hey. Can you please help with your marks from Xth/XIIth/College. Apart from that, the double promotion at Deloitte is super, accompanied with ACCA. I am assuming you have contributed in the family business in your free time (a unique good theme if you leverage it well in Essay 1). Volunteering/Mentorship is a little common these days, so I wouldn’t over-index on that, but if you have undergone professional training in Kathak/Classical Music, that becomes another good theme to highlight in Essay 1. Can’t comment if the GMAT FE is sufficient without other academic scores, but barring that, the unique extracurriculars (in dancing, singing, family business contribution) + workplace accolades at Deloitte are super as a fodder to pen down your essays. Thanks!

No academic blunders as such and you are a non-engineering graduate (BCom), then GMAT won’t be a problem, if you write compelling essays. And you have the raw material for that (as we discussed above), rooting for you! Assuming the GMAT FE is an in-centre score (not at-home).

How does it matter if it is at-home?
