Hey Forum!
I have just got my GMAT FE score (645, Q90-V80-DI-76)

My academic profile is:

BTech Grad, Mechanical Engineering [2020], 8.31 CGPA, NIT Allahabad
95.2% in 12th, 95% in 10th [if that matters]

My Professional Experience is:

13 months work ex in L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering, where I worked in the Supply Chain Department, procuring items for On-shore projects for ONGC, Saudi Aramco working with vendors across India, KSA, Singapore. I was also responsible for the Implementation and Management of SAP Ariba across my team for digitalizing Supply Chain Functions

After this, I joined Sprinklr as a Product Implementation Consultant and have been working here for 26 months now in which I have got two promotions [now working as a Lead Implementation Consultant]. I have worked with Fortune 100 companies like Disney, Amazon, Ford, Walgreens for the Implementation of Sprinklr software which boosted there marketing efforts and streamlined there back-office functions, along with building a social media strategy based on data. This has given me an exposure into variety of businesses and dealing with multiple stakeholders, further this makes my experience unique in the sense that I work with Social Media Managers, Directors of Global Communications, IT admins from the client side and Engineers, Product Managers, Success Managers, Account Executives, Project Managers from Sprinklr in order to best deliver the project.

Extra Curriculars:
I was a part of Dramatics Club in my college and was also the Club co-ordinator in my Final Year. I also managed Cultural Fest and Tech Fest during my Final Year. Further I also worked on a drone startup during my college final year and was also a part of Anokhi Pehel, a student led NGO to teach the economically backward students leaving near the campus area. Further I was part of the play that came third in Springfest [cultural fest of IIT KGP]. After college, along with my job, I have been a constant part of Open Mic clubs in Delhi and performed for the likes of Amar Ujala, Kommune.

Post-MBA goals:

Post MBA I plan to continue in Tech, with focus on Programme Management or Digital Transformation as this is the area that I have worked and find my mind and heart in

Can you please help me with my prospects?
Plan for at least a 20 point improvement in your GMAT Harshit4232.

Also, I am not sure how you were able to accomplish a switch from Supply Chain to Product implementation in a tech company. Was it because of your experience in SAP Ariba?

Work Ex -
Nov 2019 to Jan 2022 - Family Business (Retail Chain Company, Accounts Executive)
Feb 2022 to Present - Self owned Business - Home Decor D2C brand.
Started a Manufacturing plant with my brother for Mens Hosiery Garments in April 2023 Current capacity - 40,000 pcs/month.

Post MBA Goals - Want to work in the Operations Division/ Finance Division in an MNC for the first 5-6 years and pivot to entrepreneurship again.
Well, this is completely untenable in my opinion @VaidsAgarwal. Who leaves a self-owned business, to work for a MNC? Please make sure you address this somewhere in the application; this question is anyway going to come up very prominently in the interview.

Please targer a 655+ on GMAT.

All the best.

Hi,

I would appreciate it if someone could evaluate my profile for MBA admissions.

Academic Background:

10th and 12th Grades: 84%
B.Tech: 9.13 CGPA (2016) - VIT vellore
M.Tech: 7.91 (scholarship course 2018-20). IIT Delhi

Professional Experience:

- Post-graduation, I worked in the infrastructure industry, mainly in project management and stakeholder management.
- In July 2022, I switched to the social impact sector, driven by my passion for the field. I had a gap from January to June 2022 as I quit my corporate job.
- Joined Clinton Health Access Initiative as an Analyst, leading activities related to a women-centric program in collaboration with the state government. Unfortunately, I was laid off due to lack of donor funding, resulting in a 9-month gap (March to December 2023).
- Currently, I am working as a Program Manager at a social tech enterprise focusing on international development projects in Asia and the MENA region.

Post-MBA Goals:

- I aspire to work with international development agencies such as USAID, UN, or philanthropic organisations such as BMGF, etc.

Additional Information:

- Co-curricular activities - While I don’t have significant achievements to highlight, I have volunteered for NGOs, teaching school kids and mentoring college students.

- GMAT: 690 (Classic). I am aiming to improve my score and will be taking the GMAT Focus soon.

Thanks in advance!
DD16 Hi, the timeline of your professional engagements is not very clear. I don't mean to sound critical, but I would like to be honest about your chances. It's commendable that you are focusing on building a career in impact, even though you were not in this field to begin with. But for a good MBA, a lot would depend on how you contributed to the projects you were involved in. There are multiple breaks in your career. And your last job seems to have been less than a year long. All these could hurt your chances if you do not have good explanations for these gaps other than you were laid off or could not find a new job. For someone who has a master's degree (therefore longer time spent studying than peers), the gaps in your career and short employment history mean you need to be strategic about how you present your application in the best possible way. Your GMAT could be a strong support if you decide to improve the score further. I am happy to advise you regarding damage control and how to proceed with caution.

Best wishes

VaidsAgarwal  Fantastic profile! So much to talk about. Your college academics were not so great, so give your best on the GMAT. I would refrain from suggesting a threshold because I have seen entrepreneurs get into ISB with even sub-700 scores on the old GMAT edition, so ISB is really keen to admit folks who have built ventures on their own and can bring practical insights from their experiences firsthand scaling a business. Happy to speak further

Best wishes

Harshit4232   Interesting background. You have been strategic with your career pivot from procurement to tech ops/implementation at the periphery of product marketing. It is an established route for candidates who eventually want to grow in the technology space, either as a program manager or a product (or product marketing) manager (provided you build the necessary skills over time). Ultimately if you have strong analytical skills and first principle thinking, changing functions is not hard. But you should really focus on the "how" and "why" when discussing major transitions in your career, as not everyone may understand "what it took" for you to succeed in your plans. A solid list of partner companies you worked with increases confidence in your employability post-MBA.

Regarding your post-MBA goals, you need to be more explicit about the kind of ProgMan or DT roles you want to target and why. What is this area that you mention you find your heart in? Also evaluate whether you have the right skills for the post-MBA ProgMan role versus the DT role. You will have to create a case that lays out, piece by piece, how your goals strategy is the right one. I think you have some deep thinking to do here.

Best wishes

Good morning everyone

Needed some help with my profile evaluation.

I completed my 10/12th with 90 & 80%. Did my Btech in civil with 77%. I got 615 in my focus edition with Q82/V84/DI 76. I have served in the Indian Navy for 10 years. I have been involved with managing high stakes projects involving foreign Navies including coordination with PMO. I have led various diverse teams which included upto 100/150 men at a time

Extracurricular- was part of RD parade in 2015. Im a runner/ swimmer and a fitness enthusiast. I have organised Navy half marathon in Mumbai.

Is there a requirement for me to get a better score for admission to ISB? Also what is the score range required to apply for scholarships.

Regards
Hey Ayushi! Your work ex is super solid and you will certainly add diversity to the class. However, the GMAT is a bit lower than the average, so if you can try and score in the 645~655 mark then you will build a solid case (not only for ISB but IIM A/B/C as well).

Your extracurriculars seem to be a bit dated, but you might not be getting a lot of opportunities as well while serving in the Indian Navy. So, this can be covered using some stellar and unique stories from your work experience (which I am sure you must be having). The main focus should be on how you generalise these stories which mean they can be easily understood by people from non-defense background and yet communicate the same impact. Also, it will be really important to highlight what your goals are and how will ISB/MBA help you achieve them.

We have 40+ mentors from ISB on our platform IvyCrackers and few of them are on ISB admissions interview panel. You can book a complimentary 30-mins call with us and one of the interview panelists will evaluate your profile in detail. In this call, we will delve deep into your profile, help you build an overall strategy for your ISB application, and answer any questions you have about ISB.

Hey! Your work experience is pretty solid and the career transition you made from O&G to Product-based SaaS companies is pretty commendable. Coming from the same industry, I feel implementation consultant is a great role and it opens up a lot of avenues for you along with building your knowledge about products. Programme Management, Digital Transformation, or Product Management won't be difficult transitions but you will have to build a story around why you can't do that without MBA/ISB (through internal networking). Also, while your experience and transition are unique, there will be lot of candidates for SaaS based companies with similar level of work experience, so you will have to really build unique stories and articulate them well (in your essays and interviews) coz your GMAT score is also just at the average mark (although this isn't a problem since your acads have been really good).

Overall, you have a solid chance but work on your stories and your reasons for MBA really well. This will be a deal breaker for you.

Hi, can someone evaluate my profile?

GMAT (giving on the 18th of June; Last three mocks- 685, 745, 785)
I have worked for three agencies, two large multi-national networks (Dentsu, WPP), and one boutique agency (where I am currently employed).

I am a team lead/people manager. I lead one of the biggest accounts for the agency. My recommender is the client from the said account. I have people reporting into me too!

2022 Graduate BSc (H) Economics - Symbiosis, Pune. Batch topper in economic journalism 1&2. Awarded dissertation of the year for my thesis on behavioural sciences behind renting and owning a house.

I am also a freelance brand strategist, worked with brands like LinkedIn India, Hero Motocorp, Bajaj Pulsar to name a few.

Extra Info -
X - 8.8 (CBSE)
XII - ~86% (Commerce)
Hey Rahul! Those mock scores are incredible and I sincerely hope you get the highest one on your actual GMAT :). Your experience is really good, but your work experience will be a bit lower than the average work ex. Now this shouldn't really be a challenge as you have demonstrated a multi-faceted personality by working with different agencies and freelancing. There will be 2 major questions for you (1) why did you have to work with 3 agencies in a span of less than 2 years and (2) why do you need an MBA/ISB (basically what's your goal and how MBA/ISB fits with it). If you are able to defend/build your stories for these 2 questions then you will have solid chances to get in.

Additionally, are you looking for US universities as well? Coz your work experience is pretty great and if you can build over it for another couple of years then you will be a great candidate for the top US universities.

We have 40+ mentors from ISB on our platform IvyCrackers and few of them are on ISB admissions interview panel. You can book a complimentary 30-mins call with us and one of the interview panelists will evaluate your profile in detail. Hey! Your experience is pretty decent and will be almost around the average work experience mark for ISB. Acads and GMAT are pretty good. You will have to build great stories from your work experience and highlight your goals and how ISB/MBA will help you in achieving those. Managing 400+ people (indirectly) is nice, but you will have to carve out impactful stories from that experience. The reasearch paper is a great accomplishment and you can certainly use it to demonstrate your personal side.

Since the details provided by you are limited, we are not able to to share a detailed evaluation.

Hi everyone,

I’m a 24-year-old female who graduated from VIT in 2023 in Bioengineering. I’m interested in applying for the Early Entry Option (EEO) program at ISB this year and would appreciate some feedback on my profile.

Academics and Test Scores:

10th CGPA- 10

VIT graduate (2023)
GMAT score: 720

Work Experience:

Total experience: 9 months
Full-time work experience: 4 months (current role in EdTech sales)

Extracurricular Activities:

Student coordinator for a major symposium at VIT
Research paper presentation
Volunteer work with a non-profit consulting organization, focusing on digital media expansion and volunteer recruitment for an NGO

Additional Skills and Interests:

B1 level proficiency in German
Diploma in Hindustani Classical music
Diploma in Painting

Post-MBA Goals:

I plan to give my CFA level1 this year and transition into the finance sector after my MBA.

Question:

Given my profile, is it advisable to apply for the ISB EEO  this year, or would gaining more experience be beneficial?
Hey! You have a multi-dimensional profile and that's pretty good. I will start with your extracurriculars and they are pretty good. You should use them wisely to highlight your personal story in the essays (especially the diplomas in Classical Music and Painting). Your 10th and 12th grades are good, but undergrads grades will make the most impact. How were your grades in VIT? GMAT score is pretty good. At an overall level, you are sorted from acads standpoint.

Coming to work experience - I see that your goal is to get into Finance roles and you will be taking CFA. You should try and get finance roles in your organization or outside and if that's difficult then you should take up some finance projects which will help you in building your finance profile. Remember, the moment you highlight you want to transition to Finance, you start competing with people who may already have a Finance background and to stand out you will have to showcase a decent finance profile.

Hello Harshit4232,

Really good academics and an interesting diverse work profile - Supply Chain Management to Product Implementation Consulting. Exciting extra-curriculars as well, not to mention - your start-up! While all of this showcases your capability, it also puts in question as to what's next in store for you and specifically, how an MBA would help you achieve what's next?

Let's work on the pointers:
1. Post-MBA Goals: Is the move into Digital transformation an apt transition for you, and how is an MBA degree going to help you with it? Working on this can really help you build the narrative for your essays as well.

2. Work Experience: 3+ years of work exp. puts you right in the sweet spot of the ISB cohort. In addition, your diverse work profile and fast-track promotions sweeten the deal further.

3. GMAT Score: 645 is on the lower spectrum if your targets are the top B schools (ISB, IIM, etc.) in the country. A quick comparison with your mocks should help you assess the situation and improve on the same.

4. Extra-curriculars: A start-up during your final year at college - what were your learnings from this and how this has helped you shape as a person and in your career - this can be highlighted, along with your latest ones (Open Mics).

At Team FLY, we are a collective of ISB alumni dedicated to supporting prospective ISB candidates with profile positioning, essay critiques, and interview preparations.

Please feel free to book a 15-minute free session for a detailed discussion with us: https://calendly.com/reachusfly/15min
