Hey kindly evaluate my profile for ISB. Am yet to give GMAT
My Quals
78/79 in Xth/XIIth
56.4% in Grad Bsc. physics, geology
MSc. Applied Geology 65%
There is a 3 year Gap post that specifically 2 years as for 1 year was at IIT B for Mtech but had to drop due to personal circumstances
Then completed MBA in 2020 and got placed in Amazon and since then has been working as customer service operations manager in Amazon
Always thought in the 2nd year of my MBA would go for and executive MBA from IIMs/ISB to get into more strategic/consulting roles in corporate after 5 YOE
Any suggestions are also welcomed

That is a very interesting problem. A little late to the conversation, but hope it still gives some perspective. You must have a very impressive profile for making it this early to ISB, not taking the credit away that you did well on the interview too. If I were you, I would take the PGP program any day over the HEC MiM. I have very strong reasons for this. When you are at a stage in your career where you are able to bear the fruit of your good work, you should pick the degree that sets you up for long-term success. HEC is fantastic for MiM (have worked in France so I know), but as an international student, there is a certain commitment that comes with the decision to pick MiM which will restrict you somewhat in terms of the kind of roles you will get and also in terms of geography. If you know a little about the French corporate sector, the MBA is a relatively new concept. When the HEC MiM was created more than two decades ago, a Master's degree from one of the prestigious schools (Grandes écoles) was considered equivalent to having 'made it' in life. The Master in Management was created with the same idea i.e. to combine the same prestige with a management degree, at a time when the MBA was not so popular in France. But times are changing fast. There are management degrees that are shorter and have strong MBA brand associations (think INSEAD and LBS). If you are planning to get into global corporates or consulting companies, and not traditional French MNCs, a shorter program would make more sense in my perspective. ISB PGP, which is basically an MBA, will give you global mobility options too if you try well enough. The HEC MiM comes with a lot of time commitment.

Quite a few breaks and hiccups in your career trajectory, but you have a solid employer brand on your resume, so that definitely helps. So, I understand that you have been with Amazon for 5 years now? This is a good time to go for an MBA, I would say, to embellish your resume and get more lucrative/strategic opportunities. Focus on bringing out your career growth progression, conscious initiative-taking, and leadership examples in your essays and interviews. Also, it will not be enough to say that you want to get into strategic/consulting roles. You will have to research deeply enough and be specific about your goals strategy. Think about your long-term motivations and then circle back to what kind of short- to mid-term roles and learning opportunities can help you pick the right kind of skills along the way. Schools like it when your goals are both motivational (i.e., they have a story) as well as aspirational.

Feel free to get guidance

Both are practical for ISB. There is no downside or preference ISB gives if you write one, sidestepping the other.
Look at the syllabus of the both the tests and figure out the easier one to attain a competitive score.
I can arrange a session with an expert who has been mentoring the test takers for GRE and GMAT for more than 10+ years within super affordable price.
Let me know on this.

Hello Saibaba99,

It really boils down to where you see yourself in the long run; if the idea is to settle down in Europe, HEC is where you should go; if you see yourself in India (and, also want a lower risk), ISB is what you should proceed with.

Good luck!

Hello Slow_Yogi,

There are certain complications in your profile; however, you can only control what you can control. Hence, besides making the most of your career at Amazon (and showcasing the associated strengths), you must focus on excelling on the GMAT; aim for a score in excess of 675; needless to say, the higher, the better.

Hope this helps.

All the best!

Hi Prakriti2600,

While no score guarantees an admit, you must aim for a score in excess of 675 on the GMAT - the higher the better.

All the best!

I am an architect with almost 2 years of work experience in a global company. I am planning to do an MBA. What would be the ideal GMAT score for a professional like me? Am i at an advantage of any sort?
