Hi DSK23

On the surface, the career progression looks very promising. It clearly shows your efforts to move into a high-growth, data-driven industry where you are got exposure to investment decisions, and then into consulting with (hopefully) valuable client exposure and cross-functional stakeholder management. Ultimately, though, the admissions decision will come down to how you present this experience, and what the common thread is that ties all your career decisions together with your future goals in mind.

Consulting is a broad field, and these days it’s not enough to present generic consulting goals in applications. Schools expect you to have thought deeply about the nature of the problems you want to solve and, more importantly, why. I hope you can take plenty of time to think about your path and develop a strong goal strategy. This is what will carry you across the finish line. I also hope that you are working towards a solid GMAT/GRE score. Feel free to discuss your case in detail.

Best wishes

MBAGuide, Thank you so much on the feedback, I am quite clear about the path that i would like to pursue which is Sustainability consulting to be specific, since I have assisted a couple of consultants on certain projects. This is something that I strongly believe and well, I would try to put forth my goals clearly.

I am currently preparing for my GMAT that I am planning to give in August, hopefully I will have enough time prep my applications for the same. Any suggestions on how much the score should be? I am currently aiming for 720+
I am not a fan of converting the FE score to legacy equivalents. Try to score upwards of 675 on the FE. It’s good that you have clarity on your goals. Your entire application must be done in a way that makes those goals seem like a natural progression in the larger scheme of things. Could be challenging, but interesting. Best wishes

Hello DSK23,

Details pertaining to your GMAT score as well as extra-curricular activities are missing; having a score in excess of 675 will be helpful.

The professional experience looks stable; however, showcasing leadership potential and managerial abilities through your experiences will be crucial.

A lot depends on how well your essays bring your strengths together.

All the best!

Hey DSK23!
Thanks for sharing your profile—it actually has quite a few strengths that align well with what ISB typically looks for.

You’ve got a solid academic background with a strong graduation scores, and coming from NIT adds weight to your profile. What really stands out, though, is the breadth of your work experience—from electrical consulting to investor research, and now operational consulting. That shows versatility, and it’s a great foundation if you’re looking to pivot into more strategic roles within consulting.

That said, ISB is a competitive space, so here are a few areas you might want to focus on to further strengthen your application:

  1. Telling a cohesive story
Since you’ve moved across different domains, it’s important to clearly explain why those transitions happened and how they all lead to your next goal—strategy consulting. The admissions team will want to see a clear thread connecting your past roles to your future ambitions.
  2. Highlighting impact, not just responsibilities
At this stage in your career, ISB wants to see evidence of leadership—even if it’s informal. Try to bring out specific moments where you drove results, led initiatives, or influenced decisions. Numbers and outcomes go a long way in making that case.
  3. Strong test score and positioning
If you haven’t taken the GMAT/GRE yet, aim high—710+ for GMAT or 325+ for GRE will keep you competitive. Since research analyst profiles are fairly common, what’ll really help you stand out is positioning your unique edge—like your exposure to both operational and investor-focused work, which could be a great angle for someone aiming at strategy roles.

You’re definitely on the right track. If you can tie your experiences together and show clear motivation, you’ll have a compelling case.
At Admit scholar we can help you increase your chances.

Hi, please evaluate my profile for ISB. I’m planning to apply in Round 1 this year and will be taking my GMAT soon.

Academics:
- 10th (ICSE): 89.16%
- 12th (HSC – Commerce): 79.38%
- BBA (Marketing), NMIMS Mumbai: GPA 3.30/4

Work Experience: 33 months of full-time experience in marketing

Extracurriculars:
- 14+ years of Bharatanatyam training
- Government-certified teacher (Visharad Purna – equivalent to a bachelor’s degree)
- Member of school and college dance teams

Would appreciate your insights on:
- How I can further strengthen my profile and application narrative (I am planning to apply this year)
- Whether a GMAT score of 685+ would be considered competitive for ISB

Thank you!
