4. Is my profile competitive enough against the application pool?

Thank you🪬!
Answers to your questions
1) No you don’t have to be worried about academic scores as they are good
2) Can’t say yet as the change is justified based on reasons and that requires discussion for understanding them
3) 695 (to be safe)
4) Yes it’s competitive but the competition is very intense here 😅

Hi impeditet,

Your academics are decent overall. However, since you come from a relatively overrepresented applicant pool, a strong test score becomes important to stay competitive. Ideally, you should target a GMAT FE score around 685 or a GRE score in the range of 327.

At the moment, your post-MBA goals appear somewhat broad and would benefit from sharper definition. Do you already have any prior exposure or experience related to brand management or strategy? That alignment becomes important while positioning your application.
Beyond scores, a significant part of your chances will ultimately depend on how effectively your work experience, impact, leadership, and overall narrative are presented in the application.

All the Best!

Hi palexpo,

You haven’t shared a lot of detail regarding the nature of your work experience, impact, leadership exposure, or post-MBA goals, so it’s difficult to give a very precise assessment at this stage. There is no completely safe GMAT/GRE score for programs like ISB, but as a general benchmark, the class average tends to be around 675 for GMAT FE and 325 for GRE, which should give you a reasonable target range to work toward.

All the Best!

Hi,

What is the exact duration of your full-time work experience so far?

You have a solid finance-oriented profile with strong brand names like Goldman Sachs and TresVista, along with relevant exposure across capital markets, investor relations, and investment research.

Your post-MBA goals, however, are still somewhat broad at the moment and would benefit from sharper positioning toward a more specific path like private markets, corporate finance, or investment strategy.
For ISB and similar programs, ideally target a GMAT FE score around 685+ or a GRE score in the 325–327 range to stay competitive. Beyond scores, a lot will depend on how effectively you position your impact, leadership, and career progression in the application.

All the Best!

Hi,

Your early-stage startup exposure and cross-industry marketing experience help differentiate you from more traditional applicant pools.

Your academics are solid overall, extracurricular depth is good, and leadership exposure through TEDx, committees, and sports also adds value. The key now is refining your overall story and clearly connecting your past experience with your post-MBA goals in brand marketing or product management.

Ideally, you should target a GMAT FE score in the 695+ range to maximize admissions competitiveness.

All the Best!

Hi MakB I mentor physicians and healthcare applicants every year, so the first thing you need to focus on while presenting your case to a business school is, why are you genuinely motivated to move into a business role? Business schools are usually not very impressed when the motivation to move away from a clinical profession into business does not feel meaningful or well thought through.
I noticed you mentioned managing your family business for a while. Maybe that became the trigger for your decision?
Once you establish this motivation, you also need to demonstrate that you have the right foundational knowledge or skills to make this transition through a one year MBA program. The strongest healthcare profiles usually come from applicants who have already made some effort pre MBA to get their foot in the door.
So if you are truly motivated to move into Product Management or strategy, then try to look for opportunities that give you at least some glimpse of that exposure. It could be a job opportunity if you are ambitious enough, or even an internship, advisory assignment or strategic project within your current setup.
Also think carefully about what kind of strategy role you actually want to target and what domain expertise from healthcare you genuinely bring. Understand how consulting roles within the healthcare space are filled. You can even look at healthcare startups for strategy roles. Personally, I feel many health tech startups do not always create the most meaningful PM roles because the larger strategic direction is still driven by healthcare experts who deeply understand the industry, which could actually become your advantage.
One more thing, taking a long isolated gap only for GMAT preparation may not align very well with the spirit of MBA programs. Adcoms usually appreciate candidates who can manage academics, work and other responsibilities in parallel because that is also how MBA life tends to function.

Unable to clearly see your career growth progression yet, so please be careful about how you project that to the admissions committee through your application. You will largely be judged based on what you achieved for the startups during your tenure there. Many schools also subconsciously associate the trajectory of the applicant with how the startup itself performed during the same period.
It is also not very clear whether there is some meaningful success metric or outcome associated with the relatively early exit from the space tech startup. If not, then you will need to think more deeply about the larger narrative.
You also did not clearly mention what your actual function has been across the marketing/branding stints and startups, or what exactly your role within the fintech company currently is. What responsibilities are you managing? How are you performing in this role? What is the underlying theme connecting all your professional stints? What genuinely motivates you when pursuing progressively different opportunities?
Right now, there are a lot of dots that still need to be connected for the schools to see a coherent and meaningful professional story. Try to aim for a strong GMAT score as well so that the academic side of the application remains comfortably competitive.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed profile discussion
