Interesting question. I was able to find out more than just the graduation year, I found out that my interviewer (for London Business School) worked in a Private Equity company. So I researched all about the company, and was able to talk to him about his industry in a relatively knowledgable manner. Having said that, the finance industry is my target so I was able to show my passion/interest for it through my conversation anyhow (even outside of PE ).

How do you find details about alumni? Google or provided by school or access to alumni database?

thanks bsd.

todoornot, often times the school tells you the person's company name. Then through google you can find out more about them through the company's website.

Apart from that, a great resource that I like is linkedin.com. That gives you a snapshot about the person. Just put in the person's first and last name and more often than not, you'd be able to find them there.

My Kellogg interviewer was easy to find online. He has written a few books and has his own business. My GSB interviewer actually emailed me a short bio on himself before the interview.

My Kellogg interview never went towards what he did, I think he was too interesting in learning that half a dozen reactors float 2 miles from his house. (the things people dont realize). I think the ONLY thing that went my way during the interview was my knowledge of my future career and the fact he seemed geniunely interested in learning about it. He also was a 1Y guy so it was tougher to ask his experiences at Kellogg, we did talk a lot about the city and since he was married how that was. Just tried to relate on a personal level to show that I "fit" in the with the school and the culture.

Honestly if your interviewer is married and was married while in school and you are married too...that is a great way to show fit at Kellogg. They have a very involved significant other group, a large proportion of students (one of the highest of schools) are married...and evanston is a great place for a family. It really goes a long way towards showing fit. And shows that you and your wife/husband decided that its the right school for you which is good since I bet a fair number of married students are swayed to or from a school because of spouces...I know I didnt apply to Tuck because of the job market for my wife, and if I had to choose between two schools like Ross and Duke, I would have to go with Duke because of my wife's career.

Hi everyone,
I am also going to DAK, mainly to help me decide among a few schools (Kellogg, Yale, Duke, and possibly Tuck) but also to learn more about the school and meet my potential future classmates! I understand there is a group who will be at DAK and facing some of the same difficult decisions. I am wondering when you guys will be meeting up and stuff.

I only found out about this forum today and I see there is a facebook group but only for those admitted students who are matriculating. Is that true?

Thanks!
Jenny

Hi Jenny! Welcome to gmatclub! Please add your profile here: 103-t53748

Gmatclubbers, I lured Jenny away from the BW forum to meet up with all of us going to DAK in February.
Jenny, yes, there is a group on facebook for Kellogg's class of 2010, and yes, it is designed for admitted students who intend to matriculate but I joined it anyway, even though I am still undecided!
We are thinking about exchanging cell phone numbers and meeting up at the DAK.

River, are you handling the "meeting up" process?

WOW thats an impressive group, Yes nervous I can work on some sort of meeting for us. Though someone from Chicago with knowledge of Evantson might be better off with picking a spot (ApolloLuna looking in your direction) or we can just get some PMs going with real names to make it easier. I think thats probably the best since we are going to be signing in and some will be at the Thursday night event. If thats what you guys think just PM me your real name and home town (which will might be on nametags) and I will gather them together and send a list to everyone.

The general facebook group for Kellogg MBA is open to people who arent in the Northwestern network, so you can join that before making a decision.

Oh as a note, I made a thread on the gmatclub facebook group's forum about DAK. If you are a member post on there so we can put faces with names ahead of time, if you arent a member join and post (link in the thread on here about the group).

River - glad to help. I'll think of a place in Evanston that's centrally located around the hotels/campus in case everyone wants to meet up, Thursday night or otherwise. Though I think a list of names is a good idea as well. I'll PM you with my name, and I'll join that thread in the gmatclub Facebook page.

Also guys, if you PM, besides your name and hometown. Include which hotel you are staying at and if you are bringing a significant other their name.

Hi All!

I've just discovered this group today through a link on the BW forum. Thanks for all of the interesting posts and congrats to all those who have been admitted. I'd like to add my name to the list of Kellogg hopefuls...R2 applicant, interviewed on campus last October.

Steel-did you say you have been admitted to both Kellogg and MIT? I've applied to both schools and have my MIT interview in a few weeks...any tips?

Hope to see some of you at DAK2 in April!

-TJ

TJ, biggest tip for the MIT interview is to prepare stories that you did not share in your application (in fact - I got asked multiple questions in the form of "explain a time when you...." that were probably generated after reading my essay examples, because each would have fit perfectly into one of my essays, but I had to come up with something new).

Also, be prepared to ask questions of the interviewer that will sell your "Why MIT Sloan" story. You won't have a forum in the interview other than through questions to get this across.

As for Kellogg - it sounds like you're all set!

Good luck both with Kellogg and Sloan! I'll keep you abreast of my decision making process.

nupurgupt - my interviewer had not seen my essays. All he had at his disposal was my resume which I sent to him. We talked about my past experiences and my future goals and that is how he arrived at the conclusions I stated up above. Sorry about the confusion.

I'm so jealous that all of you are making plans for DAK 1. I wish I were already accepted. Have fun guys!

I would plan on applying for Fall of 2009 - when in 2007 did you see the new application material pop up on NW's website for 2008 apps?

Good luck to you all!
