Jlola, I dont think there is a sit down session with students or anything like that but there definitely are lots of students kicking around. Send me a PM, I only have one class on fridays and since its right before thanksgiving break I shouldn't have too many group meetings.

You know it's funny, I had an interview today and many similar questions were asked, and actually my interview today was much more tough but I left feeling completely okay because it was similar to my first interview with another school. I think there is a huge difference in style when an admissions committee member interviews you rather than an alumnus or second year. There's a definitely a different vibe, not good or bad in comparison, just different.

Yeah I think its easier to relate to somebody who is similar in age to me. During my UCLA interview, I think the interviewer was probably my age; so its easy to relate. Maybe communication style is similar in generations.

Whereas I feel adcom members are trained not to give any reaction to your answers, and just take lots of notes. I felt it wasn't as much as a conversation, more of an "interview."

I know another fellow students already asked this but are any of you kids going to preview weekend?

Nope, I'm not a minority (at least an underrepresented one...)

Now to the important stuff: When can we start expecting decisions? I read on BW's profile that Kellogg accepted only 19% of applicants last year. whew.

So, I've realized that Kellogg my top choice and I think that based on my profile my chances of admission are borderline. I've already interviewed and I think that it went well although I'm not sure I scored a homerun or anything. I'm trying to think of ways to improve my chances of getting in and I had a few ideas:

1. Flying to Chicago and visiting Northwestern. At this point, how much do you guys think this would impact my chances of admission? I know it would show that I am really interested in going. Is it worth the expense? I have a day off of work on Dec. 12 (a Friday). Is this too late in the admissions cycle to visit?

2. There's a professor at Northwestern Law (I'm applying JD/MBA) who is widely published in both popular newspapers and academia and I've read a number of his writings and admire his work. I was considering emailing him, introducing myself and my candidacy and talking about my interest in the school. Would that be too much? Would it help?

Thanks!

None at this point, its far to late for that. Chances are decent that they will have read your application by the 12th. Save your money for going to DAK. However, don't fear, visits play no real role in whether you get in...the only thing they do is allow you to learn more about the school.

It wont make any difference...I wouldnt waste my time or risk doing something stupid in writing him.

Thanks for the info, riverripper. DAK is the admitted students weekend, right?

You're probably right about holding off on emailing that professor.

Thanks again. I just need to destress about this whole grad school thing. I'm starting to dream about it...which is never a good sign...

Dumb question, but when does Kellogg require official transcripts? After offer of admission?

Yes, its only after an offer of admission (I called their office to verify that a couple of days ago).

It took 29 days for us to arrange it, but finally I had my interview with a Kellogg alum (also in MC) in Milan.

I think it was the easiest interview ever to have taken place in a big-3 consulting office :)

Jokes apart, very conversational, a bit of probing into goals/strategy, lots of empathy.

Questions:

- I forgot to print the resume, do you have one? (I am almost sure he meant it actually, DO bring your resume)
- Resume walk
- Why Kellogg
- Career goals (I embedded them in resume talk)
- How will you contribute to your class
- What is your plan B in case you don't get your dream job
- Why is your plan be in a different industry (I suspect he would ask 'why in a different function' had I chosen the same industry)
- What other school are you applying to (be sure to compare and contrast w/ Kellogg)
- Your questions to me (have five thoughtful one ready, google your interviewer name before)

I think it went well. Now the real waiting begins.

Also for those that didn't know (I didn't) they require official gmat scores by the deadline. But you can slip it in after but do it ASAP

Had the Kellogg Interview today; I chose the off-campus alumni option.

Questions:
- why MBA, why now?
- how will you add value to Kellogg class? what about you is unique?
- tell me about your management experiences
- what makes a good manager?
- tell me about a time you had to get your team to agree with you?
- tell me about a failure?
- what on your app are you most concerned about?
- what's your biggest accomplishment?
- tell me about an awkward moment at work (<- yes she said "awkward moment")

Misc Observations:
- she forgot about my interview! I had to call her after I'd been waiting for about 20 mins. Then she said she forgot, would be there shortly...Finally we started the interview about 45 mins after the scheduled start time. (I was a bit peeved about this)
- She spoke extensively about how much she loved her time at Kellogg, wishes it didn't have to end.

All in all, I think it went well.

Hope this helps!

Good luck to the interviews guys.

BTW, my interview was initially waved, but then I just got an email saying the adcom would want to do a phone interview with me.

Do I take that as a good sign? or nothing special? since kellogg as everyone knows, interviews almost all applicants.

Just wondering what my chances are....

I would take it as a good sign. Kellogg interviews 90% of applicants, but 100% of those admitted are interviewed. i.e. you cannot be admitted w/o an interview.
