To everyone on the wait list, what does it mean to be wait listed while they continue handing out admits? Does this mean that they have a lot of your type already and are simply focusing on diversity? It is worth pondering.

Well most waitlist candidates fall in into two categories:

1) Those the school finds to be good candidates, but have a weakness in one area. Either GPA,GMAT, ECs etc.
2) Those the schools finds to be good candidates, but they have already selected a few applicants with very similar background, and would like to see how diverse the applicants applying in R2 are. Most candidates fall in this category.

For me, i got the message from my waitlist manager that my pool is very competitive for Rd1,( :? , thats not a surprise at all) and they would like see how Rd2 pans out.

What's your pool?

Indian/Male/Product Engineer ( though not IT, but it doesnt matter much. still a competitive pool. :-))

LOL. I'm Indian/Male/Product Manager. Not being IT doesn't count for much, it's the first two which make me overrepresented.

anybody know how Kellogg matches up vs the other schools for landing people VC jobs?

Getting a VC job is not an easy task. There are two options...
1. You have industry experience and they hire you as an industry expert.
2. You have money and they want you as a partner.

I assume you fall in category 1, though if you do fall in number 2, you are well set too :P ...

What is your background? Energy? I am not sure about Kellogg, but Texas is the hotspot for energy VCs (so also California). Try and get a summer internship with a VC firm to get some hands on experience, if you haven't already, and then you should be good to go. Kellogg won't be like Wharton/Stanford but it's up there.

Though honestly, the best path to VC post MBA would be MC in the field you are interested in, then jumping to a VC once you tire of the travel. Kellogg is the darling of MC firms.

I thought I'd chip in my $0.02 because of all the talk about waitlists.

I'm a first-year at Kellogg and I applied last year as an R1 applicant. I was waitlisted on the day before the notification deadline in January and then eventually admitted in mid-March with the R2 applicants.

During my waitlist period, I only sent one update to the adcom, and only because one of the projects I was involved with went public and I could finally talk more about it.

If you have any questions about the waitlist feel free to PM me, although I will warn you that I don't come to this site daily so it might take a couple of days for me to reply.

Also, my profile: M/Indian descent/Engineering, although a very unique career background/pretty good ECs, nothing spectacular/760/3.6 undergrad GPA at a top 5 engineering school

for all you r@ folks - i remember in R1 many of us were confused on essay 3 and whether it should be written in first person or third person. I think both are fine but to share my case - I wrote it in third person and even referred to some information that I would share with my interviewer and it looks like it worked! So don't hesitate to go with whatever tone of voice helps you convey your message best.

Thanks aditi,

BTW, What font size did you use for your Kellogg essays?

Can some of the R1 applicants please share what kinds of things you mentioned in Essay #3? I am just trying to understand what are the kinds of attributes people feel they can contribute?

I am stuck in a mind rut and can only think of things in professional experiences like "problem solving" :(

For essay 2, which one is recommended. Two leadership examples or focus and elaborate on 1 leadership example? Its really hard to meet the max. word requirement with two examples and still be able to provide substantial amount of supporting evidence.

I spent the entire long weekend scanning each and every part of its A4+ dimension, but the $$$ weren't to be found! Hope yours has the added element of surprise!

I have a close friend in Mumbai who also got in (cesc4) and he hasn't received his either so I'm assuming it's just held up a few days because of the holidays and you should have it soon enough.

Hope the other apps are coming along well. Good luck with all.

I also haven't received the binder yet (I'm in Peru). Hope it arrives soon and with a $$$ letter!

Regarding the essays doubts:

Essay 2: I wrote about two experiences: one professional and one non-professional/extracurricular one.
Essay 3: I wrote it in 3rd person, and as if it was the speech of the student member of the committee trying to convince the audience that you are the guy they need in their class.

I never exceeded the limit of words. Tahoma, size 10.

Does anyone know when we can expect to find out about decisions for R2? I'm hoping some time in February. I already had my interview back around Thanksgiving time. I'm going to submit my Part II in short oder.

I've been reading the forums for sometime but never participated. I apologize if this question has been asked before...but I see a lot of 700+ and a handful of 740+ rejects. Any admits in the sub-700 range. 650-670 GMAT?

Just curious. Wish you all the best...hope we all get the trenches we'd like to spend 2 years in.
