Just had my interview off campus with an alumni (London based). Had submitted my part 1 app on dec 15 and part 2 on the R2 deadline and received the interview invite a few days before part 2 deadline.
I feel like the interview went well.

Now that I have done the interview, do you know if there is a chance to get a decision slightly earlier?

nifoui,

thanks for the interview update. This is a quick turnaround and Kellogg invited you to interview. I thought most Internationals got waivers first. What sort of questions did the alum ask, any curveballs?

Hi Jock4MBA

He asked quite standard questions. No surprises here:
go through CV
career goals / why MBA / why not just keep working
why Kellogg
my leadership style / examples
teamwork styles / examples
how I would contribute to the classroom
how I have dealt with diversity in terms of cultural, functional, age differences
extra curricular activities
anything that worries me about application

It was quite casual and straightforward, lasted 1h20mins...

Please add me to the roster - Round 2 applicant. Just completed my interview today. The interviewer was very personable and really took the time to get to know me. Good luck to all of the applicants here!

I'm in for round 2.

Got my part 1 and part 2 stuff in on the respective deadlines. I got an interview invite a few days before the part 2 deadline and completed the interview last Thursday (1/13/11).

No curveball questions. The Alum was really nice, we met at a starbucks after work and talked for about an hour and a half. She was really friendly and willing to answer alot of questions for me.

Good luck to everyone!

To the R1 applicants, or any of the R2 applicants that may have gotten one: Do you receive an email confirmation from Kellogg about Part 2 being received and confirmed? I submitted mine a week or so before the deadline but when I check my "Check Application Status" page it only says that it takes a few weeks to collect everything. On the application itself it confirms that it was submitted but I didn't know if people got an email after they confirm it or not. Thanks.

nifoui,

Thanks for the summary. Good luck with the outcome. Was the interviewer from your work industry, target industry or no match at all?

Anyone done an on-campus interview for R2 yet or have one scheduled? I'm heading up there on Feb. 12th to do mine.

Applications are reviewed in a random order, but aren't even added to the review pile until interviews are completed (or waived). So, while you have a greater chance of being among the earlier decisions released, it definitely is not certain.

In any event, you won't receive a decision earlier than the general timeline of when adcom releases decisions, which seem to start about 2-3 weeks before the decision date.

Thanks for the information Jerz.

Please help me understand...so if I have requested an on-campus interview for mid Feb, my application will not be reviewed until then? Or am I wrong?

The only reason I scheduled for that late is because I thought the adcom might have reviewed my application before I even interview.

Please provide your thoughts. Thanks again

That's correct, applications are not reviewed until they are complete, and they are not considered complete until the interview is completed (or waived). It would be much more inefficient for a reviewer to review the application, then later on look at it again with the interview feedback.

Kellogg requests that all interviews to be completed by March 5th. Does Kellogg wait until after March 5 to make its admit decisions, or does it review each application upon completion and make its decision then? The latter is more like rolling admission.

If it's the latter then there's an advantage to complete your interview early. Or in other words, there is a huge disadvantage to completing your interview late, since most of the admits will have been decided by then.

What do you guys think?

No, no particular match. Different industries, I guess the only relationship is that he went into consulting straight after MBA which is what I target, but he is no longer in that industry now.
Hope that helps and good luck to all!

Well, since you're inviting me to speculate...I imagine that some admissions decisions are made prior to March 5, just in terms of dividing applicants into "clear admits," "clear dings," and the "maybes." But I don't think anything is final until decisions begin to be released. There might be some advantage to interviewing early, but I suspect it's so minor that you shouldn't worry about it. I think it's very different from a rolling admission process.

So much of admissions is assembling a class that has certain characteristics overall, so I don't think there's any competitive advantage to interviewing earlier versus later. There were people who did their interviews pretty late in the game and were still admitted in R1, if I recall correctly.

I just got assigned another interview so they are still going out...as for things in common, it really depends on your location. If you are in Chicago it will be a lot easier than if you are in a far flung city to find someone with a similar background and/or current career (to your goal).

Yea I agree that admissions is about rounding out a class. So for applicants from an overrepresented background, for example bankers and consultants from new york, do people think it's an advantage to interview and complete your application early, so that there are more spots for that particular pool?

I really doubt there's a significant difference, if any. I agree with runnergirl - there's probably some filtering out or grouping that goes on at the early stages, but I think they look at everything holistically before they make final decisions. That's probably why there's a couple weeks between the interview deadline and when they start making decision calls.
