Super elated.. Received my interview call yesterday..

Does getting an interview after being waived off mean that they have at least liked my profile till now or is it random?

I think that an interview invite after a waiver is a good thing. So good for you ;)

Any R1 wait listed applicants receive any communication from Kellogg yet? Anyone email their admissions contact about updates since submitting their app? I emailed my contact yesterday with updates. Do you think it would be inappropriate to follow up my email with a phone call to double check that she received my email? God, applying to B school makes you throw all common sense out the window doesn't it....Thanks.

Any guesses as to when the first acceptance letters go out? We should start a pool!

I hope by early March... my guess March 9th (Wednesday)!! or maybe March 16th...

Apparently, last year the first ones went out on Monday March 8th and the deadline was Monday March 29th. If they follow the same pattern this year, we should start hearing from Kellogg on March 7th ;)

I hope so...would be nice to hear from Kellogg before my deposit for Duke is due on March 22. It will be a bittersweet moment if I get accepted just a day or two after

Did anyone interview on-campus? I have my interview on 14th. Just want to know how your interview was? Did you schedule any on-campus tour?

I had my off-campus interview last night. I don't think it went well. :(

I was walked through my resume, and subsequent questions from that. Then I was asked "why now for an MBA?" and he quoted something like MBA applicants traditionally have 6-7 years of experience before applying. That unnerved me somewhat - I guess I got the thought that he already made the impression that I was too young to get in, since I would have 5 years at matriculation. From then on, it went pretty south as I kept thinking I was fighting an upward battle, which got reinforced each time my story was interrupted by him re-asking the question again.

The questions I remember:
- Why now?
- Have you been in a situation where someone you're working with wasn't cooperating and how did you deal with it?
- What do you do for fun?
- What other schools are you applying for?
- If you were accepted into all your schools, which would be your top choice and why?

Seems like adcom interviews follow a standard format while off campus alumni interviews can potentially digress a bit.Wonder how they standardize the post interview feedback.

Kellogg's average student has 5 years of experience. With this kind of situation, you just have to be confident in your story, explain it, and insist that you are indeed correct in your decision making. If an interviewer can make you doubt your goals, something's not right.

Not trying to insult, just hoping the advice will help.

I mailed my updates after a chat with the admissions contact. There was no response from her for about 4-5 days, so I contacted her to confirm if she'd received it. Good thing I did, because she had not seen my email before that. So I would say give her some time to see it, if you dont get a response, contact her.

Yeah it's kind of weird that the alumni said that. I guess those of us with 5 years or less of work experience should always have a response ready to this type of questions.

Any suggestions for a good response? I'll only have 3 years experience and I interview Sunday.

Well, I guess it depends on your profile. I was selected for an interview with LBS and I'll definitely have less experience than most of the other students by the time the program would start, so I'm preparing for this question. In my case, I'd say that since I work for a small company (only 80 employees) I had the opportunity to work on a broad range of assignments (something that I actually initiated with my boss). Also, my company is a in a niche business in the truck industry so even though we're small we work with all the major truck manufacturers in the US. This gives me the opportunity to interact with more senior people and work on high level assignments even though I only have 4 years of work exp.
I guess you just need to show that even though you only have 3 years of work experience the other students will still benefit from it. If you don't have any relevant industry experience yet maybe you can emphasize some of your soft skills that you have developed. Hope this helps.

I maintain it's quality v. quantity. For example, a management training program or leadership development program for entry level employees, like the Kraft or Target programs might look better than 6 years of nannying abroad.

My status finally changed to this today:

All the required elements of your application are complete.

If your interview has been completed, the application has been submitted for review to the admissions committee. If your interview has not been conducted, the application will be submitted to the admissions committee upon completion of the interview. The next status check update will be the admission decision (Admit, Waitlist or Deny). When a decision has been rendered, the Office of Admissions will send you an email notifying you to check your status for your decision. Decisions will be released throughout the round, but the majority of decisions will be released during the last several weeks of the round.

Need some advice, folks.

I was assigned an alum interviewer on Jan24th for Kellogg, and contacted him the same day. Due to his upcoming international travel, the interviewer tentatively set up the interview for Feb12th, and asked me to get in touch after Feb 8th, when he was flying back to the US, to setup a time/venue etc. Its been 3 days since the 8th, his phone seems to be switched off, and there is no email response. I am wondering if there have been changes to his travel plans and if he might not be here this weekend.

With only 3 days to go until the 21-day Kellogg interview deadline, and with no answer from the alum, I am wondering what to do. I could wait until tomorrow (tentative interview date), but that would mean that if i dont hear from him, and call up the admissions office on Monday....it would be the 21st day since the interview assignment email, and calling up the admissions office then might look odd.

So, the question is, should I wait until Monday, or should I be pro-active and contact the admissions office today to seek another alum assignment?

Thanks
