Visited both Booth and Kellogg on Monday. So surprised by the difference between the two facilities. It was kind of night and day.
Curious to hear your thoughts on that. What did you think about each? Was it because Booth's Harper Center is relatively new compared to Kellogg's Jacob Center? Or that the former feels like a giant mall in comparison to the latter? Or something else?
I'll be the first to agree that Jacobs is a bit lacking, especially when compared against Booth. To be honest, the first time I walked into Jacobs as a prospective, I was like "there is no way in hell I'm paying 150K to go to school in this dingy building and face this crush of humanity!"
Now one quarter away from graduation, I can honestly say Jacobs rarely detracted from my experience, and in some ways actually added to it. Reasons:
1.) B-school is WAY more about the people that you are with than the building you are in. Is it nice to be in a state of the art facility? Absoulutely. But, at the end of the day, is it better to have a great culture fit in a crappy building, or an awful fit in a great building....I'll let you all argue about that.
2.) In the cramped confines of Jacobs you actually have to opportunity to meet many more new people and see your friends more often. Is it crowded sometimes? Sure. It is endearing? Absolutely.
Just my two cents.
