Is there any advantage or disadvantage to submitting Part 1 of the application well before Part 2? I'm applying in R2 and could submit Part 1 anytime, but will probably not have the essays done until close to the Part 2 deadline. I'll be requesting an off-campus interview.

I'm in the same boat. I too would like to know if it's better to submit Part 1 earlier.

As soon as you submit Part 1 you can schedule your interview. I submitted Part 1 in August, interviewed in September, and submitted Part 2 on the R1 deadline. This was important to because I wanted to interview on campus and I wanted to visit campus before I submitted essays. If you're interviewing off campus there shouldn't be a huge advantage.

Though, I would say that the huge advantage of interviewing before the essays is that it is done and you don't have to think about it any more. The advantage of waiting until after the essays is that you have worked through your personal goals and plans more clearly from working through the essays...tradeoffs either way.

I had a similar situation. I interviewed on campus a week before I submitted my part 2. There was one question the interviewer asked me that I felt I didn't answer well (and it was an issue one of my Kellogg alumni friends had brought up as something I should pre-emptively address), so I completely scrapped an essay and used the "I wish the adcom had asked me ..." question to re-answer that question.

Kellogg aims to interview every applicant before a ding / admit offer so no, I don't think you're dinged quite yet. 8 weeks is excessive, I believe on the website the instructions are to contact the school if 8 weeks have passed since submitting Part 1 and you still haven't received an interview email.

Any specific advantage/disadvantage of getting an interview waiver? Or will they definitely take the interview at some point before the decision? I know they try to interview everyone..

If they do not take an interview at all, does that mean that the other parts of the application automatically carry more weightage?

Got an interview waiver mail just now..

If they are waiving interviews for so many Indians, I doubt its a negative..

Any interviews taken place in India yet?

They claim to make the waiver decision prior to evaluating the content of the application, so I wouldn't worry too much about receiving a waiver.

General email..

Dear ,

Thank you for your request for an alumni interview. There has been a significant increase in the number of interview requests this year in your area; therefore we can not accommodate your request without making excessive demands of our alumni interviewers. We are waiving your interview requirement so as not to delay the submission or processing of your application.

Please be assured that this waiver will in no way negatively impact your candidacy. The Admissions Committee understands and expects these conditions and will certainly take them into consideration when reviewing your application. The interview is a single factor in your evaluation and is by no means the most important criterion for admission. The committee will contact you personally if they feel they need further clarification on any aspect of your file.

We appreciate your interest in the Kellogg School of Management. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call us at (847) 491-5805 or send an email to
