Thanks for this. My default instinct is to wear a suit to an interview. I don't think that the dress of the alumni interviewer is a factor, really, they can wear whatever they want, they're not being interviewed.
Spot on...I mean its pretty common to go to interview with companies where the people you interview with are in their normal attire for the office (read as b-casual). I know during most interviews that took place off campus (R1/R2/R3) I went through, the people interviewing me were not in suits. Would you dare dress like that when everyone else is wearing a suit?
One thing, that is looked at when interviewing people whether for work or for school is maturity and professionalism. Sure many alums wont hold it against you but is it worth the risk that you might end up sitting across from someone who is taking it very serious, much like they were interviewing you for a job? I recommend if you don't want to wear a suit because you are coming straight from work, discuss it ahead of time. Simply say during the planning of the interview, I am coming straight from work and I haven't told my employer about applying yet, since I wont have time to go home and change would you mind if I show up in b-casual.
