In the document I gave to each of my recommenders, I stated "I would appreciate it if you could complete this recommendation and submit it by October 11th. This is a week before the deadline, and I will be nervous if I have anything outstanding within a week of the deadline."

I also gave them about two months of lead time. One of my recommenders submitted by the 11th, and the other submitted a few days later (after a friendly follow-up from me). It worked out just fine, and I was straightforward about my expectations of them as well as the actual deadline.

Absolutely agree with Spivey181's approach. It is all about managing the recommenders. You need to convey the urgency of the matter to them; they can never grasp it on their own. It is your need and not theirs (unless they are truly invested in you). Of course, there is no need to "lie" about the deadlines. You can be up front and say that it is better that the recommendations are in well before the deadline;then, follow up regularly. As the deadline approaches, drop in words like "urgent", "nervous", and "anxious" to get the point across politely.

In my case the closest I got to a deadline was 2 days and longest was 20 days. Of course, my recommenders were super supportive and super efficient; that's why I chose them as recommenders in the first place! ;)

Submitted for R1.
On-campus interview next month.

Would really appreciate it if anybody who's interviewed on campus could provide a debrief of his/her experience.

I have mine on 18th....So if Yours is after that, I can share my exp......if yours is earlier, then it would be the other way round. :o :)

I have it on the 5th, so I can provide a debrief for you. But I know there are a lot of folks who have already interviewed on campus.

I had mine on campus - so here's my debrief, hope it helps!

Interviewer was an admissions official and very friendly. Handed my resume and a sheet which i had just filled out upon arrival which asked to write ST/LT goals (space given to answer each is limited so i think they just expect the highlights)

Questions i got:
- Tell me about yourself
- Describe professional accomplishments, why important
- What is leadership style
- Why MBA / why now – weaved it with goals/why Kellogg
- What would teammates say are 3 strengths
- What would teammates say is 1 weakness
- Difficult situation with team
- What I do outside of work
- Why did I choose my undergrad school
- Any concerns in application would like to address
- Anything else to add
- Any questions for me

Interview lasted 1 hour.

Hope it helps! Good luck to all!

PS: if you can visit a class/talk to students/tour campus before your interview that will give you lots more to talk about + kellogg rocks and everyone is so great there!

My recommendor has said that he will not be able to submit within the deadline...some glitch with his computer..He may be be abe to submit tomorrow. Is Kellogg generally ok with that?

I had called up the Kellogg office about this today. They said that it is okay if the recommender submits within a day or so of the deadline. However, this might delay the decision date for the application, i.e. you may or may not hear before the Dec 19 date. I think that might mean that if the recommender doesn't submit before they start processing the applications, the review of your application will get delayed. But you are still considered as a Rd 1 applicant.

Flying out to Chicago tomorrow morning. Veteran's Association Event tomorrow night. Class visit with a Vet Thursday morning and then interview at 1 pm. Haven't seen the school yet but have been really impressed with the current students I've spoken to. I'm very excited to finish up and have "all the hay in the barn" for my Kellogg ap!

I have my on-campus interview on a Saturday. I have heard that only student members conduct the interview on Saturdays. Can anyone confirm that?

So it looks like my recommender submitted my rec last night at around 10:10 PST from an email he sent me after he submitted. It shows up on my apply now page as submitted on 10/19.

God I hope this doesn't become an issue...

You will be fine. 1-2 days is a non-issue. It is usually after that time frame that causes a concern.

Submitted my application on Monday, had my interview with alum last Friday. It looks as I'm done with Kellogg (at least for now...). Good luck to everyone with interviews.

Did your interviewer ask you questions from a list and mark you after each response? Just wondering if there is a standard set of questions that they have to ask apart from questions that they might come up with on their own.

i don't think there was a list, the interviewer was taking lots of notes though and covered all the basics with those questions so i suppose they know what they want an answer to (leadership, team, challenge, strengths, weakness...)

So I forget whether I waived my right to access my first recommendation for Kellogg. Honestly, I thought nothing of it and hit submit. I recently learned that not waiving your right is a mistake as the recommendation may become less valid. Is there a way of finding out whether or not I wavied it and how big of a deal is this to the adcom??

Where did you hear this from? Has anyone else heard this? I did not waive my right for any of my R1 schools, I didn't think it was a big deal. If this is true, I will be sure to waive it for R2.

I think this Cornell site has some good details about how it could be perceived.

https://www.career.cornell.edu/HealthCar ... ccess.html

All in all, if it does not matter to you I would waive the rights. If you genuinely have a strong feeling about reviewing your letter, I would not waive your rights. I honestly do not feel this should impact your decision any way. Recommenders in today's environment for the most part does not do anything special. Speaking with several adcoms it seems that 90% of the recommenders do not sway admission one way or another. Hope this helps
