Oh wow is this the same for all schools?
I was under the understanding that we have to report scores to all the schools by the deadline…
This is not normal or at least this was not normal in the past. This has been a more frequently adapted policy however in the last few years.
Because it cost money to send score reports, schools figuring that if they take screenshots, it would allow them to remove a barrier for applicants to apply. At the time when some schools are score optional, this is not so radical. You would have to submit a matching official score if you get admitted.
The interesting part is that this hits the bottom line of GMAC and now they don’t make as much from sending additional school reports since a lot of people apply to seven or 12 schools. And if they no longer have to send the score reports, that takes away revenue from GMAC, which is not happy about this is my guess which is one reason they make it hard for you to get a PDF of unofficial score report with GMAT focus (there’s no PDF, you have to take a screenshot).
GMAC is governed by schools, which leaves them stuck between a rock and a hard place for revenue. This reduces the funding for the exam and ability for GMAC to innovate or compete with GRE, it is a sort of a death spiral, where schools that are prioritizing short-term gains in increased applicant volume, are hurting the long-term viability of the test they use. Also underscores the difficult dynamics between business schools and GMAC. I’m sure you probably don’t care about this dynamics under the surface but I’m gonna share it anyway, as the backstory is somewhat complex and full of intrigue
Bottom line: GMAC also has problems both short and long term. They are too weak however to turn the tide.
Interesting is that GRE is probably in a worse position, where they choose survival in the short term versus long-term viability perhaps things are worse than we realize. Both tests have lost a significant portion of the test volume.
But yes, you can take a screenshot of your test score and send it in for a number of programs.
PS. Another interesting dynamic has been allowing app applicants to send in updated test scores during the round. Haas even has a special form for this.
HBS and Stanford did not allow this last year. HBS tends to be a hold out who sticks to their guns and fairness but I’m not sure if the rest of the schools are feeling as confident. Soon it seems you will be able to send in updated essays and updated résumé, pretty silly.
