This doesn’t affect people who are on F1 and applying for an H1B. But if you wanttakesnter the country on your H1B you can be stopped if your employer hasn’t paid the 100k fee. This effectively means you can’t travel in and out of the country. If you are in the US already it won’t be a problem. This isn’t ideal because obviously one would want to travel back and forth to see their family etc.
if this stands then it’s a negative for anyone hoping to work long term in the USA.
However, it’s highly likely to be struck down by courts.
It was deliberately announced on a Friday evening to spread panic over the weekend since nothing can be done in court until Monday. The headlines are there, the panic is over the weekend, the voter base is appeased. But for it to stand legally is a whole other challenge.
In any case, let’s wait and watch. There will be influencers who will milk this by releasing a ton of videos and posts on LinkedIn. But let it takes its course.
