Does anybody know precisely the hour they going to send the emails on Jan 31st?

I've checked with some MIT students and they've said that some people receive phone calls...

It will be hard to handle this uncertainty.....

I think nearly all admits receive phone calls...with few exceptions.

Any one else waiting for a reply on R1 apps?

I am. Sloan will probably offer us outright admission without interview.

lol, if it's true, that will be awesome. My status remains the same almost three months. Did anyone write the letter or call to school for check?

I have a feeling that Adcom won't even start looking at us until after they send out admits for R1 applicants. I could be totally wrong though...I'm guessing end of February/early March.

Anyone know why it takes so much longer for MIT to hand out interview invites than other schools? I guess they must really scrutinize the cover letter and essays.

It's because they care....

In all seriousness though, from what I can tell MIT invites a smaller # of students to interview, so I would assume that their methodology for selecting those to interview would be more stringent than other schools.

Thats probably true. My friend at Sloan told me they also take a majority of those they interview. Again, this could be speculation, but that was her opinion.

I am praying for a call from CBS. If that happens, I will be withdrawing my Sloan application so that will leave one more extra spot :) I'm definitely getting WAY ahead of myself here but just wanted to state my good intentions (karma?)!

That is true, actually. According to this interview by Rod Garcia (https://blog.clearadmit.com/2009/06/admi ... od-garcia/), MIT interviews only 18% of their applicants, and they HAVE to be selective at this stage because only the adcom interviews (~10 people), unlike other schools that use alumni and students. And apparently, in one of the chats last year, one adcom official said they accept 50-70% of those interviewed. Definitely a "majority".....just have to cross your fingers that your interview score is in the top 50%

That 18% is total. But for round 1, it's around 25% while round 2 is only like 12-13%. I really wanted to apply round 1, but my application just wasn't ready. Oh well, just gotta wait and see what happens.

I can't remember where I read this (sorry!) but I am sure that during my research I came across a video with Rod Garcia saying that they have a fixed number of interview slots a year (800), which they haven't changed to reflect the rising application numbers in recent years. As there are approx 350 MBA students in a class, (excl. LGO), and assuming they have a yield of about 70%, that's 500 offer letters. So yes, statistically... a majority of interviewees (around 60%?) should get accepted.

My phone buzzed with an email... when I checked my inbox, it was from MIT Sloan School of Management -- and the subject line was cut off, but my phone displays the first few words of the body. It read, "We are very pleased to..." I pretty much jumped out of my chair. Maybe some IT guy clicked send early on a batch of emails!!!!!!

Then I opened it up and saw it was the Master of Finance program -- releasing their employment report. Thus concludes my pants-$hittin6 bschool admissions-related fun for the day.

:horror

not cool...glad I'm not on the m.fin list. btw, whoever sent that email is reading this forum and laughing their asses off.
