During a "Sloan on the road" event last year, I was told that the school receives 2/3rds of its applications in R2 (and 50% admits given out).
Seems like we dont see that on gmatclub though (only dozen R2 applicants so far). Even if we factor in the fact that many more people get added on the roll call as interview deadlines approach, we will probably not be anywhere close to R1 number. Any thoughts?
You're right. Based on comments made by adcom, Sloan interviews roughly the same number of candidates in each round, and admits the same number as well. Based on the most recent BusinessWeek numbers...
4782 Total Applications (BusinessWeek)
R1 = 1594 Applications (Total * 1/3)
R2 = 3188 Applications (Total * 2/3)
17% Interviewed (BusinessWeek) = 813 Applicants
R1 = 406.5 Interviews (813/2)
R2 = 406.5 Interviews (813/2)
Chances of receiving interview invite:
R1 = 25.50% (406.5/1594)........................................GMAT Club R1 = 17.39% (20/115)
R2 = 12.75% (406.5/3188)
13% Accepted (BusinessWeek) = 622 Applicants
R1 = 311 Applicants (622/2)
R2 = 311 Applicants (622/2)
Chances of acceptance after interview invite:
R1 = 76.51% (311/406.5)
R2 = 76.51% (311/406.5)
The MIT Sloan thread from previous years also show a large dropoff in R2 applications among GMAT Clubbers. Not sure why the trend, given that R2 sees so many more applicants... Probably something to do with the "Type A+, among Type A" personalities that GMAT Club attracts -- the early/overprepared R1 applicant.
