Well I think 10% over is not a problem, no one is counting words, you attach a pdf, one cannot automatically count words.. well i have a bigger problem..

attended the LGO day yesterday and I was all set with R1 materials. One cannot apply to both simultaneously, so decided will make up my mind after the event. Well still torn, the LGO sounds like a good idea - MS and a MBA in 2 years, well I have a PhD, so one would ask why bother with MS? But then I could do a specialization in the energy area (which is the area I work in anyway and will be different from my PhD area).. So its ok, and there seems to be a good bunch of serious partner companies.. Well its operations focussed so no finance etc.. But I hear if you really want to do so something in the area it can still be done..

In any case, they wont allow simultaneous applications to both, so if I let go of R1 then I will basically be LGO or R2 MBA.. Don't know if R1 will put me at a significant advantage or if it is ok to wait till R2? What do you guys think?

Since it's coming down to the wire, just giving you my 2 cents. I think you should really think about the benefit of each program to you and how it relates to your overall professional goals. Can you achieve your Post-MBA goals with just the MBA from Sloan? Does the LGO program offer you something significant that the regular MBA program cannot? I would worry less about advantages/disadvantages of R1 v. R2 and how they affect your chances of being accepted to MIT Sloan in general, and apply to the program that fits your overall needs more. If that happens to be LGO, that 'fit' will show through in your additional required LGO essay. If you're only slightly interested in LGO (like me, I'm 'slightly' interested because I think it's neat, but ultimately does not give me additional value over the standard MBA program) then that will also show through.

Not sure if that helps at all - basically what I'm trying to say is apply to the program that makes most sense for you and don't worry too much about managing probabilities.

My final (second) recommender submitted his letter two minutes ago, after five reminders in the last four days. When did he receive the link from MIT? Two months ago!
Oh well, hope everyone else's reco letters go in on time. The login page has the following reminder. I don't know how long it's been there ...

in my case, both my recommenders have submitted their recos but i havent been able to complete my application :( Essays need more work. So i am pushing myself out to Round 2. Hope i am not making a stupid decision here :?

If only i had 2-3 more days to do the final touch ups. Disappointed with myself :(

People, I am assuming that i wont have to take the recos again for round 2, right? I can just submit my application in 1 week and the recos will attach with my application. Please advise.

That is correct. Rec's are tied to your application, not the round in which you apply. Sorry to hear you're pushing to R2, but a much better decision than rushing essays.

Agreed. Sorry to hear that the essays are not done. Subpar essays and asking for MIT admissions is equivalent to asking BCS to make Boise State #1. Definitely spend time to polish them up.

thanks for you responses. Would i need to change "Please indicate the application round to which you are applying*:" in the application to Round 2 from round 1, or would it automatically become round 2 after deadline for Round 1 expires.

I would assume the latter. But I'd email admissions to confirm. They are quite responsive.

Can I ask something now that I am more relaxed and before starting my TOEFL preparation.

How many people are admitted to Sloan MBA?

I think I saw somewhere over 500 and even another place 600. Do they interview around 1200? is it 300 for each round? I mean if the statistics are based on these numbers then I have some chances to get an interview or the statistics are based on the class size (~400)?

R1 deadline was 10 minutes ago. I'd call the admissions office to see if you'd still qualify for R1 if you submitted now. If you don't, then I guess it's worth it to apply to LGO since you're leaning that way anyway. Good luck.

Both recommendors did not submit on time...emailed adcom to see if I could still be considered R1. Not good.

Submitted 15 mins before the deadline. But my cover letter is 535 words (i.e. the core content) while one of my essays is 520 words, but I won't worry about that.

Now the wait begins, just that waiting till december 1st week is a bit too long. Can't they start sending invites earlier? like mid-november?

Also going through the stats posted above

18% candidates got interviewed and 14% got admits that means 77% success rate on an interview invite.. thats pretty cool :)

One of my recommender is still 'polishing' the essays.
I was anxious about the deadline but then he called admissions office and checked whether it was OK to submit recos a little late in the day and admissions guys are fine with it. Now I feel good that my recommender is putting in so much time into the essays.
