To make up for my gaffe in my interview at Cornell (some of you know the story), I did let my interviewer know that NYU Stern was my top choice school and if offered admission I would matriculate. I don't think that statement had the necessary effect however, haha, and it was probably a bit silly on my part.

I said the same thing at the end of my Booth interview and we know how that ended up. Never doing that again personally.

I'd mentioned a couple of employers specifically in my goals essay, and my packet contained profiles of NYU Stern alumni at those employers, information about the Specializations I had indicated an interest in, as well stuff about the student clubs I had expressed an interest in in my essays and application.

That's impressive!

As far as the rest of your interview it sounds like it went well. I'd feel good about the fact that NYU accepts a large percentage post interview and I wouldn't worry about the "NYU is my first choice" comment. I think that was probably a positive move (at worst neutral) since NYU is one of those schools that really wants you to be its top choice (hence their crazy ass essay questions about your experience with the school).

I agree, from wht I have heard, NYU has this inferiority complex that people view them as a backup to CBS. Anything that establishes fit and convinces them that they r ur top choice cannot be a wrong move! btw, great debrief solaris

Just received a waitlist notification. Guess that's a step up from my first 2 rejections... :|

Oh, and congrats solaris! How about you go to Cornell, so I can take your spot at NYU?

Thank you, everyone! I'm quite honestly ecstatic about having made it in to Stern. I think my Stern application was my strongest so far and I would have been utterly disappointed if I hadn't made it.

Thanks very much, and I am almost sure I will be matriculating at NYU in the fall. :)

First off, apologies for the long post.

I was waitlisted yesterday and I'm curious about the proceedings. Given that I have no other admits at this point and Stern was one of my top 2 choices, this is something I plan to pursue rather aggressively. I have a few questions though. I'm hoping 3underscore, navy01 (if she's around, since she was admitted off the w/l last year), or anyone else that has an opinion can provide some insight.

1) How does the waitlist work at Stern vs. other schools? At other schools with invitation-only interviews, you're usually waitlisted after interviewing. At Stern, I was waitlisted pre-interview. So technically, am I waitlisted for an interview or waitlisted for admission? I presume the former, but hoping for the latter.

2) Does anyone know Stern's timeline for the waitlist? I know navy01 was admitted off the waitlist pretty late in the game last year, but do they wait until after all rounds? Or is there a chance for admission witht the R2 pool?

3) I've read through some of the waitlist best practices, and I'm thinking of having another recommendation sent. I haven't read my recommendations. At this point, is it fair for me to approach my recommenders and ask to see what they have written? I'm worried that there was overlap between the two people I had write for me.

4) Any other suggestions (ie. timeline, things to submit, types of booze to drink to pass the time)?

Thanks everyone...and hopefully everyone else gets admitted, so they don't have to worry about this. Although, I'm sure this information can be helpful to those who are also waitlisted at Stern.

how do you kow that you have been waitlisted? did you received an email? i have applied to R1 and I still have to know anything about stern.

They received the toefl Score report after the deadline (There was some problem), is possible that they consider mw with the R2 pool?
