International applicant. R1 and WL w/o interview. Got a mail of interview invitation yesterday but the only option is on campus. Still considering whether I shall spend a fortune and fly 12 hours to NYC for an interview.

can anyone point me to the right direction in terms of taking any supplementary course as part of improving my academic record.

gpa and gmat are not that great and i thought that either a quantitative course or any kind of course would be good to improve my academic record.
looking for courses preferably in europe, or would have to look at the US, preferably nyc.

many thanks

Hi all,
Just got my WL letter, after interviewing, so I'm joining this list :)
Although it may be a silly question, I'll ask it anyway: is it possible to also receive any $$ from the school if admitted from the WL? Has it ever happened? I assume not, but I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth to wait.
I am now trying to figure out what to send as an update to improve my profile...
Thanks and good luck to everyone!

hmm... any updates from the people WL without interview?

I was waitlisted without interview from R1.

Also, I sent in supplemental material, but I don't see it on the Application Status Check webpage. Anyone else send in supplemental material and see any updates or hear anything?

I've sent two supplemental materials and both have been noted in my app. One was an email and one was a recommendation. Interestingly, I went to do the campus tour yesterday. This is not automatically recorded.

Yes, I know someone who is a first-year who was WL last year and then admitted and received some money. It's because they offer money to those they admit and then when those decline their offers, they have money left over. For some reason, schools give it to those from the WL instead of those that were initially admitted. Not great for them, but works for WL'ers.

WL, after the interview (March 30th). Does anyone know what percentage of WL people with interviews get offers? Approximately? Just trying to ballpark my chances before shifting gears.

Additional material...what are the better/smarter ways to improve your package in WL case? I assume 'trying to hard' can also be a turn off.

Based on everything I've read (but not personal experience as I haven't got off a WL), send them a letter (sooner rather than later) that:

1) Reiterates your commitment to Stern. Make it clear that if they admit you, you will improve their yield, not detract from it (i.e., tell them they are your first choice);

2) Conveys any new, relevant information that wasn't captured in your app; and

3) Reiterates and/or conveys your UNIQUE value proposition. Make it clear why they need you in the class.

I understand your concern about "trying too hard" but don't think that means you should play hard-to-get. This is an elite business school, not an insecure chick you met at the bar. They have a large pool of exceptional candidates to choose from -- you need to highlight why/how you stand out. Good luck!

Yesterday, I sent them the supplemental essay and today they updated my status online and replied back saying that your information has been received. Has the response been similar for other guys? This was really quick turn around. I am still hoping for the best.

I have a similar story. I sent in my essay update on a Friday and got a "thanks for your continued interest" response on Monday.
Keep up the hope! I am too! Maybe we'll be there together in the fall :-)

Guys, what do you think: are two additional letters of recommendation too much?
