That's excellent, congratulations! Summer start is a selection of MBA students that Stern see's as having leadership potential within the student community and/or need to improve/get up to speed academically prior to the start of the MBA program. (at least that's how it was explained to me) Personally I think its a great opportunity to get a jump start on your core classes and free up some additional time to network with your classmates, take leadership positions in clubs/student government etc. once the program starts. Would take it as a positive going into the interview. Personally if given the option I would jump on it, you would be a part of a small group of classmates that will have a few extra months to bond prior to the official start of the program. Good luck!

R1 applicants-I am a R2 applicant and wondering what was the typical lead time between submitted and invited to interview that you guys saw in R1... any info on this would be truly appreciated..

I heard back within about 3 weeks, but I think that was more or less the first batch that went out. I interviewed in the first week of Jan, as I couldn't get a flight over Christmas, and then got the acceptance 4 days later via email. Scholarship info comes with the official letter which is mailed out, obviously time to receive this will depend largely on where you are in the world. Hope that helps
