*Also international student. I don’t have good things to say about the school so you would only expect the real facts about what happens in here on campus. But want to be helpful with applications.
I have a friend in there and i have only heard good things about the school.. do you mind sharing what you felt is off

Depends on several factors. But as an international student I’d say it hasn’t been great. Very poor sense of community in the school. Careers is most un proactive and un supportive. They’ve been relying over the years on structured on campus process for recruiting outcomes doing nothing to ensure students get the career outcomes they deserve. When that campus process is now failing students they have nowhere to go.

Many students warned them that this will happen but they ignored it. Many international MBA1s are extremely frustrated since traditional recruiters (IB / Consulting) have hardly handed out offers and careers made no effort to help in off campus recruiting. Financial aid is equally weird I don’t wanna talk about them. Professors themselves are saying about the quality of students we’re attracting and the low admission offer acceptance rate of applicants here. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with upcoming batches.

It’s pretty standard. You’ll be invited after your application goes in. Make sure your goals align with prior background even if they’re out of the box goals. Pick six, make sure to be very natural with it. Talk about your hobbies, small things that make you happy, unique things about your / your likings / places you’ve been to that shaped your perspective to get you to the stage you’re applying for an MBA here

Thanks for sharing the unfiltered reality on the ground regarding international placements. I’m an older candidate targeting tech/AI, and hearing about the lack of institutional support is a major red flag when weighing ROI. For the internationals who are actually landing roles right now, is it purely through their own off-campus networking, or are there specific tech pipelines at Stern that are still functioning?

It’s almost totally on the students own network or prior experience. Only IB is on campus that too dwindling, even consulting is not much at this point.

If you’re targeting anything other than IB (+ don’t have scholarship) I’ll not suggest Stern IMO. In fact generally I’ll suggest to learn networking and outreach to max number of people on social platforms & email for internship search, and going to a school that’s not necessarily HSWB / T10 but gives you a huge scholarship. Target Washington Foster, UCB ,UCLA and other west coast schools for tech (this is my opinion specific to your needs)

I think you get internships or land into jobs by NETWORKING only in all US schools
Unlike the campus interviews in India, where you are offered jobs
That's the reality
Even for Networking, top schools have well defined pipelines and structured process in place, which makes it easier.

You pay such ridiculous money to go to top schools for a predictable pipeline and its totally fair to expect them to work hard to get you what you want and deserve based on your background and experience. And yes top schools have campus interviews and hiring process in the US as well. If you’d like to network your way into a job and are confident of your skills go for a T20/30 school that gives you a good scholarship and network your way into the job. Networking isn’t as easy and quick as it sounds

What about cities? Do they play an important role in placements? Do cities like Boston, LA, Chicago, or Austin offer an advantage over tier two cities?

Yes, cities that are base of your target industries are helpful but not necessarily the only factor. You can always live in Tenessee and keep networking from Tennesee into NYC or SF and then go there for coffee chats or interviews. But I’d prefer NYC or SF or whatever unless your program has placements there / you have relevant prior experience enough to get you into those industries / functions
