When putting together a coherent MBA candidate profile and writing good application essays, I would keep the following in mind:
1. Why you need an MBA
2. Why you want an MBA now
3. Why Vanderbilt is a great fit
4. What unique background or talents you will add to your class
And in terms of having an impact, have the following in mind:
5. What your short-term goals are (target firm or industry after MBA and/or five-year plan)
6. What your long-term goals are (both in terms of your career and how you can give back to the community or pay-it-forward)
I would include these points in my application essays and be able to present them verbally if you're invited to interview. I also think that just listing your ideas and goals is not good enough. If possible, you should demonstrate all of the above in story form.
-A story about what made you want to have management training
OR
-A story about why you want to make a career change
OR
-A story about why you are targeting a particular firm or industry
