any suggestions for "making an impact essay in personal or professional capacity". What exactly you think Vandy is looking for?

When putting together a coherent MBA candidate profile and writing good application essays, I would keep the following in mind:

1. Why you need an MBA
2. Why you want an MBA now
3. Why Vanderbilt is a great fit
4. What unique background or talents you will add to your class

And in terms of having an impact, have the following in mind:

5. What your short-term goals are (target firm or industry after MBA and/or five-year plan)
6. What your long-term goals are (both in terms of your career and how you can give back to the community or pay-it-forward)

I would include these points in my application essays and be able to present them verbally if you're invited to interview. I also think that just listing your ideas and goals is not good enough. If possible, you should demonstrate all of the above in story form.

-A story about what made you want to have management training
OR
-A story about why you want to make a career change
OR
-A story about why you are targeting a particular firm or industry
etc

BTW... Submitted for round 1. Last of my apps. Now I just sit back and wait, as I've already preemptively taken my Owen interview last week.

The wait will be excruciating.

Good luck to all!

Guys a quick question, are we supposed to add essay questions at the top of the file?

When nothing is mentioned on the instructions, I always add the questions at the top of the page. I think that makes it easier for adcom when they get the full file.

I usually create page header with my name, program applying to, and name of essay, like "post MBA goals". Love the idea of putting the actual question prompt in, but unfortunately too late for me!

I just wanted to make sure because some schools, such as Duke, specifically ask you not to add the question prompt at the top. Anyway I'm gonna add it since I cannot find any instructions.

BTW some schools also ask you to avoid putting in personal details because they give your essays to third parties for plagiarism checks. Therefore I avoid putting in personal details including my name.

That is a true and good point! Then I've had other schools (Foster comes to mind) request that info. I assume if there aren't any specific instructions then using your best judgement is the way to go!

I noticed that Owen mentions "rolling admissions" on the deadline dates page. If I submit say over the next couple of weeks does that mean I have a chance they may actually review my application prior to the R2 cutoff date on January 12th? Or does the rolling admission only affect those applying after R4? If anyone has any experience or information regarding the above I'd be very appreciative because I'll just keep working on the app until Jan rather than submitting early. Thanks in advance!

My understanding was that it becomes rolling after the last deadline, but I'm not 100% sure about before that.

Judging by the last year trends, invites went out on 12-13 Nov, which is about two weeks after the deadline.
