Is Ross a good fit for candidates looking to further their career in the 'energy sector'?
I have had a look at the Ross website and also the associated centers (Eg: 'Erb Institue'). How well does Ross place students in energy consulting firms?
I am currently working in a public sector energy (power, water and infrastructure sector) consultancy.
Thanks
In my opinion, Ross is one of the best places for energy. I'm in the Ross Energy Club, and I have found it to be very helpful. The club organized a trip to Houston in early December to meet with energy companies in the area, which included the supermajors, consulting firms (Deloitte and BCG), and i-banking. It was our inaugural trip, and it was a huge success, in my opinion - kudos to the organizers. Maybe we had a little too much fun, but you can never really have too much fun, right? Word on the street is that future trips are going to be even more awesome, as in more companies - and more fun, if humanly possible.
The Erb Institute is for people who are pursuing dual degrees at Ross and the School of Natural Resources. However, since I'm not in Erb, I can't speak to it in any great detail. In general, students in Erb are more interested in renewables like wind, solar, etc.
Personally, I feel that there is an emphasis on renewables at Ross, given the reputation of the school in sustainability and the Erb program. As a member of the incoming board of the Ross Energy Club, I personally see Ross as a place where everyone who's interested in energy, be it renewables or fossil fuels or whatever, can benefit and derive great value. We have relationships with many energy companies, and we're trying to get even more energy companies to come to recruit on campus.
OK, that's my spiel. But if you're looking to go into energy, I think Ross is going to be an exciting place for you.
