It's official that Ross has closed it's Non co-signer loan option for International students and it may stay that way going ahead.
The reason being lots of alumni have defaulted on their loan obligation and the school had to pay the loans on their behalf. So much for the quality of alumnus that we all discuss about... .
I assume the defaults had been increasing and so Ross had to close this loan option.

This was updated at the Official Google groups page by Soojin herself.
Now I am trying hard to arrange for funds from my own pocket but it seems highly unlikely that this will happen.

Hi,

I am an R2 applicant and just got an interview invite...please can you paste the link to the official google group where Soojin has clarified this...
Its really unfortunate actually :(
Is there any chance of Ross again offering this option before the classes start this year? Are they looking to find an alternate FI which is willing to provide such loans?

@Ashgmat

It was mentioned explicitly that their won't be such an option this year and it was more of a strategic decision rather than out of some difficulty arranging for such a loan. As I mentioned, increasing defaults has made it difficult for Ross to offer such an option going ahead.

I fully appreciate the fact that Ross had no other option if the alumni continue to default. However I also feel that it has got to do with the tuition fees and the ROI/savings that the MBAs earn post education. Surely the 100K USD fees at 8%+ interest rates is difficult to pay back for people who may not earn in six figures.

This incident also highlights that paying back the loan may not be that easy if someone had to leave US and return to his home country for any unforeseen reason where earning power is surely less as compared to US.
The odds are surely against the Internationals and MBA within the US from top schools at high tuition fees is surely favorable only to the domestic students.

Congrats to everyone who got the invite!

Question: I want to withdraw my application but I can't figure out how. Does anyone know what to do- should I just ignore the interview invite? I'd like to free up the space for someone else so please let me know if you have any info :)

I would just e-mail admissions and let them know. I'm sure they'll tell you what steps to take.

On the Ross MBA app, did anyone see any section or page where an applicant was required to fill-up extra-curricular / community service / hobbies related stuff ?
Unfortunately, I did not see any section or page on the app. Can anyone confirm ?

Had my Ross interview yesterday on campus. Standard questions, Ross tries to match you up with someone that is going into the same industry/clubs that you are interested in, so it was an engaging conversation with a guy going to Bain.

- Tell me about yourself
- Explain career transitions
- Why MBA / Why Ross
- Tell me about a disappointment
- What clubs are you interested in
- What is one hot trend in your industry, and what is a risk that someone would face pursuing that trend?

Lasted 50 minutes, all in all I think it went well until I realized now that I called my interviewer by the wrong name at the end of the interview. Oh boy.

I too had my interview on campus yesterday - as part of Women's Super Saturday. Kudos to the ~10 men who spend the day hearing about women's experiences at Ross.

My interview was pretty standard/conversational. I met with a sponsored International student who would be going back to his firm in a yet-to-be-determined role.

Questions:
- Walk me through your resume
- Why MBA / Why Ross
- Tell me about team failure
- How will you contribute to the Ross community
- What classes/concentrations are you interested in
- What is your greatest professional strength
- What is your greatest personal accomplishment/proudest moment
- Apart from our discussion, what else does the Adcomm need to know about your candidacy

About 30-40 minutes in interview, another 10 in my questions. Very relaxed and enjoyable discussion.

Overall I recommend the super saturday format to anyone interviewing. Good discussions/panels from Soojin, a professor, current students and a reception with networking opportunities. Also follies was hilarious.

Good luck to everyone interviewing with Ross. I have my interview coming up for the consortium interview day on February 17th. I am flying in on Thursday Night and Leaving on Saturday Evening (going to stay for part of the conference). If any other gmact clubbers would like to meet up (or need a ride to and from campus if our flights coincide), let me know. Looking forward to meeting some other prospective wolverines!

Can anyone give more detail as to how to schedule the off-campus interview? I don't want to click on a date in the calendar and be automatically signed-up... Do they give you a choice of times to choose from or do you have to coordinate that with the alumni interviewer?

Thanks!

I do not remember because I spent about 5 minutes on the site and did on-campus, but I do know that they are very willing to help you change things around after you submit. I accidentally uploaded two copies of my resume and they deleted one off the site for me within a day of me emailing. I wouldn't sweat it, you likely won't be automatically signed up.

hey mba2014hopeful,

just click on the date and a page will appear suggesting the interviewer name and a blank box.
You have to write some message in the box and then click on the send invite button.
No they do not give you the choice of times and you have to coordinate that with the alumni interviewer.

Hi..by when do applicants who receive admits in Round 2 need to confirm their acceptance (and pay the deposit). Is there one common deadline for all 3 rounds..or it is separate?
