Fellow members,
I am an international student (from india) working here on H1B. I have weekend MBA admits from Ross and would like to know from fellow international students whether General Motors and Ford hire international students (sponsor) MBA grads out of this school? (My concentration will be strategy & finance)
I have heard mixed answers from people and want to get insight from someone who actually went through the process and currently works in one of these companies.
I greatly appreciate any input from such students/professionals.
It's not a problem with Ross or GM/Ford, it's politics. Without going too much into that firestorm, the experiences of past visa holders may not be applicable soon, Trump has a new executive order coming out soon on H1B. Since I'm new to GMAT club, I can't post links, but a quick Google of "Draft Trump H1B Executive Order" should allow you to find it quickly.
it clearly states that new regulations will be put in place regarding foreign students and US students. Ford/GM may have limited numbers of visa sponsorship and may have to prove that no US worker had similar skills as you, which in the area of Finance and Strategy, is probably not true. They would probably use their limited H1B "quota" on engineers. The old 20,000 for US based college students may be a thing of the past; your status as a worker trying to use a student clause would probably not fly in any case.
Trust me, H1B visas are about to become a huge topic and with most things in American politics, the pendulam swings in another direction fast. You may be best served by waiting it out before finding yourself still only employable through your current employer a couple of years down the road and an MBA in hand.
Hope this helps.
