I was talking last week to a very well known/successful VC whose on a board that I'm an observer on about GSB and he said "I have never met a recent Stanford MBA I would hire. They have all been obnoxiously entitled and incapable of handling the quantitative aspects of the job." He doesn't have an MBA (has been in VC since before you needed one to get into the field) and he's spoken highly of other programs, so I don't think it was coming from bias (i.e., it's not like he's a harvard MBA or is still bitter he got rejected from gsb 20 years ago). He also didn't know I'm applying to Stanford, so it's not like he was tyring to make me feel better about having not received an interview invitation.
After the meeting the managing director from my firm on the deal and I were talking about the comment and he said "well the only Stanford MBA I've worked closely with was [former associate/principal at our fund] and he was a moron."
I'm curious if this is a commonly held stereotype of GSB grads by execs in Silicin Valley that we applicants don't typically hear about or if these are just outliers. But I found it interesting either way.
