From what I can gather, you fill out the same form for needs and merit based scholarships. The essays are the thing primarily used for the merit scholarship...For needs based, you also have to fill out the FAFSA sometime in the spring.

Thanks AC. Since I'd be lucky to get any scholarship money at a lesser ranked school, I'm not sure it's worth my time and effort to fill out the Tuck form..... :|

I've still got a week (I think), so I'll think about it.

that was my thinking too - I'd be lucky just to get in much less get money. But IF by some miracle I did get in, wouldn't it be great if I scored some money as well? So I just gave up a few more hours of sleep and got the form done too....just in case. :P

Ja it's really open-ended. I called and asked the Fin Aid office if they see the rest of the app or just this essay when making financial aid decisions. They indicated that they "sometimes see the whole app but that's rare". So I figured it was okay for this essay to do a broad overview of my background and then include a para at the end on my goals....seemed a bit redundant with the rest of the app but if the Fin Aid office doesn't see the rest, then it's most likely fine...

Hey,

Can anyone tell me what time the Tuck application is due by tomorrow? I looked through the website but couldn't find anything about a specific time. All it said is November Round 11/12/2008 E.S.T.

I'm in for Nov round.

Waiting on my recs. The letters of rec are actually really difficult--looking for a lot of detail in just 300 words. Did anyone else hear similar comments from your recommenders?

300 words? I didn't hear that. My manager was just surprised that he had to write about 3 weaknesses.

They ask the ur recommender to not go over 300 words per question but the form doesn't cut them off until 3,000 characters (which is more than 300 words, closer to 400-450 I think). I asked my recommenders to stay under 300 words per question.

My recommenders went off the weblink I provided them (actually, terp provided it to me) then they were shocked when it came time to upload and the Tuck page said 300 words. They had like 500 for each.

Agreed....3 weaknesses is harsh. And they want examples for every quality your recommender ranks you top 5%.
