My recommenders went off the weblink I provided them (actually, terp provided it to me) then they were shocked when it came time to upload and the Tuck page said 300 words. They had like 500 for each.

Agreed....3 weaknesses is harsh. And they want examples for every quality your recommender ranks you top 5%.

Ouch. That is pretty bad. We had discussed some ideas about what to include, but they never told me about this. Now, I'm freaking out about what they wrote in the recommendations. :?

What are you referring to? Do they want the official copy? I just submitted my score during the application.

As for the recommendation, my recs hated it. And, I think providing examples for all qualities in the top 5% incents them to select top 10% to save their time. Oh well.

This is what I got from Sandy Chambers in the Tuck Financial Aid Office:

Quote:

Q: How do you determine need and do all scholarships have a need-basis to them?

A: Many of Tuck's Scholarships are a combination of need and merit based
funds. We do have scholarships that are merit based. What we do when
determining an applicants financial need, we used the same methodology
that the Federal Govt uses when determining need on the FAFSA - for
need-based Federal aid eligibility.

Q: What is the purpose of the biographical essay?

A: The scholarship committee will review the biographical essay. This is
separate from the admission process. This gives you an opportunity to
tell us about yourself & you can include any items you feel are
important.
