If any of you are interested in Tuck, they have a program called Tuck Connect where they pair you up with an alumni that will work with you throughout the process and answer any questions you have about the school. I am interested in consulting and they paired me up with an alum that works at Bain. As soon as I signed up he contacted me the next day. Very cool. I know this is of limited use to those applying this year, but it seems very helpful if you are interested in Tuck for next year.

A little depressing for those of us with lots of dings but hopefully this trend will still be going strong when I re-apply next year.

Keep the faith, mappleby. Good things happen to good people. I'm sure you can put together a killer app next fall, maybe even consider applying a couple places R3 this year just for the heck of it.

Yeah. The subtext of the article amounted to "Vets are attractive to schools and corporations because Uncle Sam provides a kicker...oh, and leadership is a good thing too."

I've often wondered about the size of the military applicant pool and the acceptance rate relative to other applicant groups (IB, MC, IT). I would imagine the Indian IT group (or Indians in general) have a much tougher time, followed closely by Chinese mostly because they are big pools and most US corporations won't sponsor visas for them to stay.

I was lucky enough to get an interview invite to HBS at exactly 12pm EST yesterday. Any service academy alumni at HBS who would be willing to offer any advice/recommendations in preparation for the interview? Thanks!

If you email the Armed Forces Alumni Association, they will help you out. I contacted them last year and they were very helpful (got me into a class when the Admissions office couldn't) and also gave me feedback about essays.

*Edit* I'm not sure if any of the officers in the AFAA are from service academies

PM sent.

As someone mentioned earlier, registration for the HBS Military Prospective Student Day on March 5 just opened up. It won't do you a lot of good if you've already applied, but if you're planning on applying for R1 or R2 next year it would be worth your time.

There's definitely incentive for schools to attract more applicants, say good things about vets, and no reason to say anything to the contrary. Based on the relatively small number of vets enrolled at each school, we might indeed face as stiff of competition as any other group.

My main WE is IT, so far not faring well and time for some R3, considering Haas part time.

Has anyone requested an extension through personnel beyond their ADSC? My ADSC ends 28 May 2012 but I was hoping to stay in until 1 Sept to get 40% of the GI bill (and to travel around on hops all summer).

Thanks for any insight. I'm about to submit a request and my commander backs it, but I was wondering if anyone had been in this situation before.

Just put in your separation paperwork and request a DOS of 1 Sep. Shouldn't be an issue or require contacting personnel. My ADSC is up on 1 Sep 2012 and I put in for a DOS of 1 Jan 2013 and it got approved a few weeks ago. And I'm even crossing into a new fiscal year. You shouldn't have an issue.

I am in the same situation. My 0-6 signed my request to push my ETS date back 100 days (to mid-September). Now just waiting on HRC to approve/deny it.
