EMB,
I have been lurking this site for about a month. Was initially anticipating matriculating with in fall of 2020, but switching my major to a B.A. in Economics with minor in Mandarin and will Graduate in Spring '19. So aiming to matriculate in the Fall of 2019. Currently attending Texas Tech University and will have a GPA in the 3.1-3.4 range most likely.
Currently prepping for the GMAT that I plan to take in Sep-Oct this year. I will work on my weaknesses in the first attempt and will retake again in December, and a 3rd time in Spring '18 with hopes of getting an extremely competitive score.
I am a first generation college student and also a URM(Hispanic).
I spent 6 years active duty enlisted. ETS'd as a Sergeant with many displays of separating from my peers throughout my career. I was planning on getting in touch with "Military To Buisness" consulting later this fall. I will likely purchase the services next spring after I have a good idea of what my GMAT score will be and narrow my list to 3-4 target schools.
What I believe will be my strongest display of military leadership is the fact that I was the first ever PFC to win an honor graduate award at the Fort Hood Warriors Leaders Course.
In February 2009, as a 19 year old PFC, I was selected by my Batallion CSM to attend the upcoming Warriors Leaders Course. The course reserved 16 slots for PFCs to attend the class of 200+ soldiers. I saw this as an opportunity to showcase myself for future consideration in promotions. Not only did I graduate on the Commandants list, Top 20% of overall GPA, I won the Commandants Challenge. The Commandants Challenge award is one of only four honor graduate awards offered in each Warriors Leaders Course at Fort Hood.
I competed against several Sergeants throughout the competition. Despite my lack of experience I was able to outperform my competitors both tactically and technically. After graduating from the Warriors Leaders Course I was promoted to Specialist three days later in a ceremony hosted by my Battalion CSM.
After going through my awards this past weekend, I feel I can put together a strong display of leadership through my 6 years of service. I was planning on submitting information to Military To Business this weekend for a quick consulting.
As stated above, I am about 18 months from submitting my R1 applications so I am working to build as strong of an application as possible. Is there a way I can communicate with you and get some input on how to strengthen my overall application? Thanks! Look forward to working with MTB in the future.
Sure, you can go ahead and submit the
profile review request through the MTB website. As far as a completely off-the-cuff assessment, it's hard for me to provide too much in the way of useful guidance given that you don't know where your GMAT will fall out and since your GPA could be from a 3.1 to a 3.4. But if we assume a 3.3 and a 700ish GMAT you could definitely be competitive for schools in the McCombs/UNC/Marshall/Vandy tier provided that you pull together strong applications.
We typically match clients and consultants based on similar backgrounds so it's unlikely we'd end up working together -- plus after 4 years of doing MTB as a side gig I'm in the process of winding down my workload given my day job and family considerations. When you get a reply on your submission you could mention that you're interested in starting with a long-term strategy session, then if you do end up signing up for a comprehensive package later this year your initial session payment will get credited towards the cost of the package you sign up for.
