Any female admits attending Welcome Weekend with a partner? I'm trying to reassure mine that he won't be the only male partner there!

So I swear they gave us a pdf of information from chatterbox on housing, but I can't find it anywhere?? Can someone please tell me who sent the email and when or if it was just on one of the various websites? Thanks for your help!!
I don't have that one digitally, but I do have the larger one from 2009 which you might think is helpful as well.

Signed my lease today!!

Hey Jmw125, where did you rent? I am looking at housing now too...Maybe i will view a couple of apartments while I am at Philly during admit weekend!
I'm renting at 1700 walnut. Good idea but watch out for price gouging cause that's when everyone looks.

anybody hear any pos/neg review ofs 1500 locust, looks ok to me but im used to living in the ghetto army towns of the south
I went to check it out. It's overpriced IMO for what you're getting. Paying too much for a nice lobby and excercise space on the top floor but apartments themselves aren't as nice. Rittenhouse claridge is better value in better area (was my second pick). I went with 1700 walnut.

I am a small town person and thought that Philly would offer more affordable housing than NYC or Chicago. Boy, was I wrong! I need to revise my spreadsheet section for housing costs.
You've obviously never rented an apartment in NYC if you think that. NYC rents are about 40-60% higher (or more) for comparable apartments. To provide an example I'm currently living in the west village in NYC in a studio apt. It's about 400 sq feet, co-op with nice finishes. I'm paying 2350. I'm getting a 1000 sq ft one bedroom on rittenhouse sq for significantly less. In my mind, that qualifies as more affordable.

And for the record, Chicago is also significantly cheaper than manhattan.

Jmw125,

Thanks for the NYC RE story, 40-60% premium is unbelievable. For you Philly rental rates must look like a bargain and you get more space for your $. "Affordable Housing" for a young family is an oxymoron in NYC and is one of the reasons I didn't apply to NYC BSchools. I think Philly is one of the more expensive US metropolitan areas. I may look for a place other than Rittenhouse Sq, maybe Grad-Hospital or Sth St.

Depending on what you're budget is, you should be able to find something if you go away from rittenhouse. Check out 2121 market (significantly cheaper) and some of the places north of there. Also could probably find townhouse options instead of highrise apartments that are significantly less.

So with the round 3 interview invites going out tomorrow before 5 PM...for those that have been through this:

- Is it just an all day rolling process or one big email blast?

- How many interview invites do you think will be sent out?

- Any guesses on how many spaces are still available?

Do you mind if i ask how much did you pay and is it a 1 BR or a studio? My coworker who graduated last year highly recommended 1700 Walnut to me. She said is a great location, good space and not as many Wharton grads, so it doesnt feel as much like a dorm as other buildings! Did you also look at Riverloft or Lofts at 1835 Arch? The pictures look really nice on the website but i wonder if is as nice in reality. I heard Wanamaker, Claridge and Dorchester are great choices too!

Thanks a bunch! :)

I don't know how to put this, but I will not accept at Wharton, which I assume will open up a spot on the waitlist.

Best of luck to everyone.

May I ask which school you're going to?

I am not sure.

My heart says Yale.
My head says MIT.
My wallet says Wharton.

I think it's time to follow my heart. Visited and loved Yale, and my sister went there, too!

Wharton is the one school that doesn't ring my bell, so I will reject that offer, for sure.

Wow - I wish my heart and head spoke as clearly. As a waitlisted applicant, I appreciate the spot... I've heard great things about Yale, including Chicago's Snyder being the new dean, and SOM attracting top Wharton faculty. Still, it's hard to turn down Wharton and MIT for a school that's not a clear top five contender (at least not yet). Best of luck wherever you decide to go!

Paying around 2k for one bedroom (it's the end unit so has windows on three sides). From what I've heard, the other one bedrooms are cheaper, but I really liked the one I got. I looked at riverlofts but it's more expensive and basically all Wharton students. Also not Aran of the layouts...but def nice.

Liked the claridge (as long as you go with a renovated unit) but 1700 was bigger and had washer/dryer in unit which I wanted. Wannamaker and dorchester I think are condos so you have to find one you like an didn't want to go though that process from NYC (Esp after I've done it before) plus they're mostly wharton students (I also didn't want dorm feel). 1830 Lombard was nice (and cheaper) if you can get your arms around the location...hope that helps.

I'm also looking at housing but for a one bedroom brownstone. I currently live in one in NYC and love it. Brownstones have a lot of character, are cheaper, generally more spacious, and offer a community feel as there are only about 6 other families (max) in the building. Of course, brownstones have their negatives; ie no doorman (which is annoying for packages that require signatures), no elevator (sucks if you're on the top floor), less security, and definitely fewer amenities.

But its a great option nonetheless. From my basic research, it looks like one bedroom brownstones in the rittenhouse square area range anywhere from $1300 - $1800. And as Jmw125 said, it is SO MUCH cheaper (in my case, 60% cheaper, no joke) than NYC. I'm excited to finally have some disposable income!
