How was the dinner and the interview?

Hey - sorry for the late reply. Work was insane last week, which I think is probably a good thing, as it actually kept me from obsessively refreshing my app pages and these forums!

The dinner and interview went pretty well, thanks for asking.

The dinner was really nice. Tim Collins (Chairman of the SOM Board of Advisors) was really nice, and an impressive personality. The alumni are passionate about the university. All-in-all it was a good / inspiring event, and definitely served to make me even more excited about SOM (if that's even possible!). But meeting the other applicants was also a bit intimidating! So many incredibly qualified individuals...

As others have commented, the interview was fairly straightforward. No real curveballs. My interviewer was very warm, and did her best to put me at ease. I think I give myself a 'B'. It took me a little while to get warmed up, and I didn't say everything I intended to (including leaving out one fairly important piece of my profile that I intended to draw attention to. Completely drew a blank... oops!) ... but I still answered most of the questions fairly effectively I think. I walked out feeling decent. And then over the next few days proceeded to convince myself that I completely messed it up, but I think I've come back around to thinking that it was a 'fine' interview. Nothing too special. Not horrible. I don't expect it will either get me in or keep me out. So, I sure hope those essays strike the right chord!

For anyone interested, I interviewed off-campus in London. 13 applicants interviewed in London last Monday and Tuesday.

But I still think more invites are coming. I know waiting is hard (I haven't heard back either way from any of my other schools)... but don't give up hope!

Best of luck to everyone.

Even i felt the same way after the interview. There were certain points on my CV that i wanted to talk about but didn't get the chance to. But i hope your informal interaction before the interview might have helped. Good luck with the results. !

Hey guys, I interviewed in campus with a 2nd year student last week. After that, I sent him a thank you note by e-mail but I didn't get an answer. Anyone in the same situation? For those who got an answer to the thank you note, how many days did it take for getting a answer? Thanks!

I've gotten responses in under 3 days.

If it's been longer than that, does anyone know the protocol? Do you ping them again or does that seem desperate in the event that they did get your original email and just chose not to respond?

I mailed her within 36 hours and got her reply within 36 hours.. So nice of her.. I must tell you that they (2nd year interviewers) are very busy people stuck in job interviews and other admissions-related work etc. Today is Monday (first weekday after the weekend). So don't over-stress about not getting a reply so soon. I am sure (s)he will reply back, even if (s)he doesn't - you shouldn't bother her/him again. And btw our interview reports might have been submitted already (guess they usually get 2-3 days).

I also interviewed on campus. My interviewer actually took the initiative to send me a thank you email me first, which was rather surprising. It was also within 1 hour after the interview. Anyone else experience something similar?

I also had my interviewer send me an email almost immediately after my on campus interview.

Anyone know what % of people interviewed are offered at SOM?

Based on last year's gmatclub statistics (assuming that the gmatclub sample size is representative of the overall interview pool), about 2/3rds of those interviewed were admitted.

Class of 2016, R1: 37 admitted out of 48 interviewed ~77%
Class of 2016, R2: 41 admitted out of 68 interviewed ~60%

News for the forum members is that SOM is adding a new 'cohort' next year (Currently there are 4 cohorts with 323 students). Generally SOM aims to have a cohort of size 64-75. But this year they increased the intake as the new building became available. At the same time they plan to reduce the cohort size to around 70. So it has to be 5*70=350. Class size can be a little more or less of 350 depending on yield. We can safely assume the yield of Yale to go up this year. All the interviewees I met during the Interview day are damn committed to Yale (including myself :) ). Due to ranking boom and new facilities, we can assume the yield to be around 55% (Kellogg/Booth/Tuck range).

If we go by this statistic, the Adcom will need to offer 636 offers. As one can expect the number of applications to rise to 2900+, the acceptance rate can be 22% (last year it was 24% as yield was 50%). I think the increase in class size will be offset by increase in yield.

Assuming the Adcom interviews Quarter to a Third of Applications (In the words of Bruce Delmonico), we have a 30% interview rate for Round-1 and 22% offer rate making the probability 70% post-interview.

In Round-1 I believe they interviewed close to 200 on the campus (third interview day had 60 of us) and they will interview (including those already interviewed) nearly 150 in other locations of US, international hub cities and Skype. So if its 350 interviewed, they might make 220+ offers at least in Round-1 (as some will be waitlisted with/without interview and may be admitted later). So it's not over for those who might be waitlisted without interview.

This happened to me as well! He was such a wonderful person, and I had an amazing time interviewing at the SOM.

For Yale SOM, is there the decision of waitlist without interview? If so, I seem to count on this notification only.

Don't worry about not receiving a reply to your thank you! It's a busy time at SOM right before Thanksgiving Break, and it's personal preference to respond to those types of emails as well. At the end of the day, receiving a response tp your thank you note has NO bearing on the actual decision.

You guys are done now. Enjoy Thanksgiving (if you celebrate), spend some time with family & friends, and keep your fingers crossed for good news in December!

The prior admit weekends are posted here: all-mba-admit-weekends-166534.html
I'll see if I can do some fishing for the dates for this year, but that info will surely be in your admit package ;)
