Is taking consultancy worth it

I don’t see anything special about them apart from

Adding volunteering experience
Essay editors

If given a chance back in the past would you still choose then.

It really depends on the applicant.

Some applicants don’t need them because they are really good at story telling and application strategy. However if you’re a non-traditional, bad writer or someone who is bad at application strategy may find a consultant worthwhile.

I’ve seen traditional applicants benefit from consultants as well. It really depends on the applicants strength and weaknesses

I got a consultant. paid 15k for 5 schools and got into 3 with him (with 50% scholarship). For me it was worth it. What I paid for the consultant, I made back in scholarship.

Not trying to shade any companies here, but I would say majority of the consulting firms SUCK and have no idea about the process. NONE. It took me weeks of calls with multiple consultants from various companies to really find the one.

Also, I feel like many people don’t really understand what a consultant provides. There are false expectations that the consultant will carry you and do everything for you. NOT THE CASE. It’s your app, and your story. Consultants help you bring it out in the best possible way to increase your chances. What you might think of a small situation might really be the turning point of who you are. Thats what the consultant does.
