Congrats SheikhJi! I was recently admitted as well. Was your scholarship information mentioned in the acceptance letter on the portal?

My apologies to those whom weren't admitted. Best of luck to those waiting to hear from other schools. If you are reapplying next year, I recommend that you dissect your application thoroughly and evaluate how you can make your application stronger for next year (i.e. taking on more responsibilities at work, more involvement in extra curricular activities, basically anything that displays personal growth and/or helps offset any deficiencies in your app.). The acceptance yield for re-applicants at most schools is considerably higher than the yield for first-time applicants. Don't give up!

If you're reapplying to Rice, I would try to stress how you "fit" in the program in your essays. Rice really strives to create family atmosphere for its students.

congrats to the admits! I was down in Houston this past weekend and it really got me excited for the fall. My condolences to those who were dinged, I know it's a terrible feeling.

Sounds like admission is getting more rigorous, especially considering the trend at GMAT Club of beating the average acceptance rate for most schools, but hopefully I'll be seeing a few of you in the fall, best of luck to those still waiting.

Congrats to all those admitted. I applied round three and was accepted. I am from out of state and will be visiting campus next week to check things out. Any suggestions on what I should do? I also have a wife and child and am interested in anyone's thoughts on family housing.

Hi APBaxter... Congrats!!

how old is your child? One thing I'd definitely recommend is checking out the schools in the area.

I am not sure which areas you are considering for living in town, but right near the university is a great place for families- really good neighborhoods. We are moving to a house a 2 blocks from campus and sending our daughter to First Christian (it's on the corner of Rice/Sunset - so I can walk over and peek in on her at lunch)

My daughter is 4... glad to see I won't be the only parent in the class :)

acspark,

I'm glad to learn of another parent as well.

My son will be turning two at the end of July, so we haven't looked into schools too much.

I have just started looking at housing and my only leads are the ones listed on Rice's website. Do you have a source for off-campus family housing?

I'd look at HAR.com if you are looking to lease a house- they have a map search feature so you can zoom in on neighborhoods and see what is available. The zip code for the neighborhood nearest the school is 77030.

Since you have a family, and depending on what your desired commute to school, Garden Oaks is also a great area. It's near 610/Ella, outside of the loop. It is however about a 20 minute drive down to Rice (you can take the street Shepherd down)

If you are interested in renting an apartment, condo or loft, talk to Tiffany @ Renters Resource. Her email is : tiffany@rentersresource They work with Rice grad students often in helping them to find a place.

I wish I could make it... that's the day we are moving - so I'll just be down the street, but I am pretty I'll have my hands full. :(
