Ops is decently strong and we place a lot of people at amazon. I think they are our biggest recruiter. As far as analytical consulting that isn't one of our stronger post because most people are going to strategy which is really strong. BSG, Bain, Deloitte, North Highland, Cognizant, and a bunch of boutiques recruiter here. I am not sure what you mean by finance strategy.

a. Can you comment on which firms are open to recruiting Internationals for Strategy Consulting?
b. Approximately what percentage of the class gets hired for Strategy Consulting assignments?

I didn't catch BSG - which firm is this?
You did mention Cognizant (also visible on placement report) - does it mean Cognizant Business Consulting or Cognizant Technologies?

Thanks for helping the applicants!

BSG is typo, it is BCG (Boston Consulting Group).
It's Cognizant Business Consulting that recruits on-campus for both internship and full time.

a) There are lot of companies that recruit internationals on-campus and off-campus in various domains such as retail, consulting, healthcare, telecom, technology and in multiple functions across different lines of business. For e.g. Deloitte has various consulting functions - Healthcare, Technology, Human Capital, Strategy and Ops, Finance etc.
b) We don't have such micro level details, you can connect with CMC and admissions to ask specific questions. Did you check employment report?

FROM Owen Press Releases: Feeling lucky? Many loyal consumers do, despite the facts
Consumers who perceive themselves as loyal customers to a particular company often believe that they have better than average odds to win contests and sweepstakes that are entirely random.

Not sure toe numbers but if you want to talk to the admissions people I am sure they have the answer. I can tell you a lot of people go to strategy consulting. I am a US applicant so I know less about international placement. MBAnerd is international and a awesome person to talk to about international placement. But I can promise you that there are a ton of firms that recruit for S/O consulting. We also have a big Human and Organization performance concentration. WE actually host the biggest HOP case competition for Deloitte and GE. So some go into that but that is by choice. We just hosted it an team Strom half the top 25 came.

I am getting close to submitting my application for Round 1 (Woohoo!). I wrote both mandatory essays but only 2 of the optional, did anyone else not write all of the optional essays? I felt like the other 4 essays would give enough detail on my professional and personal interests.

UT,

I think you should be fine. Those are more for people that need to add supplemental information.

I visited Owen during a Discover Weekend this past winter and was absolutely impressed. The entire program represented itself extremely well. My main goal in going was to assess the student culture and see if I could see myself being around that group of people as I transitioned out of the Marine Corps, took risks (and sometimes failed), and experienced Nashville and all that it has to offer. What I found was much more. The students were a great group, to be sure, and they did their part in showing us a good time in Nashville. However what absolutely impressed me was the faculty. The first night I was there I found myself drinking a beer with Dean Johnson talking about challenges that transitioning vets face, as well as the challenges facing business schools as they try to attract and recruit the right veterans.

I'm excited to have my app in for round 1 and look forward to the rest of the admissions process!!

ps...I am split between excitement and disbelief in the lack of chatter in this forum. I feel like I have discovered some sort of life hack that no one else knows about. SEC football?? Nashville?? Top-25 Business School on the rise?? Am I missing something?!

Its weird on this forum. We are trying to engage more students through gmatclub but its kind of a anomaly at the school. We have a pretty high application rate 21st but on gmat club it is more than underwhelming. You are right, SEC Football. SEC basketball, #1 baseball team. Top 16 university. Top 25 or 20 depending on the ranking system business school. One of the most connected universities in the country. Best college town in the country in my book. Nashville is awesome plus its cheap. We place at Goldman, BCG, Bain, Deloitte, Bulge Bracket banks, Large boutiques, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, its unreal. And then you have the student body and faculty. That last part is the best part and the hardest to help people understand without being here. If you come this year let me know I'd love to connect with a future dore. Also if anyone reads this if you visit school you get a app fee waiver. Come for an interview its the best way to understand this great school.

Just submitted my application. I could not be more excited about Vanderbilt. I am also surprised about how little the discussion has taken place on this thread. It will also be nice to have another horse in the SEC football race, my Vols have not looked good in a long time =(.

Can any current student also provide more information on Scholarships?

Approximately what percentage of admitted candidates get the scholarship and how many are close to full tuition scholarships?

I was granted an application fee waiver and I have applied for R1.

I think it is near half of the class gets some sort of scholarship. There are a few full rides but the school is generous with scholarship for the right students...

Hey everyone!

I want to get an MBA and I live in Nashville- so naturally Owen is a top choice for me! I have a question for anyone (current student or other) who may be knowledgeable on the subject....in a hypothetical situation, if an applicant had a 670 GMAT (below average but in the 80% range) and a 3.8 GPA (above average) and average work experience of a couple years, would you consider that applicant to be competitive at Owen? I just feel like the GMAT is much more important than the GPA component so I'm afraid being below that 688 GMAT average (or whatever it is when I apply) will hurt me. I am a CPA with a couple years work experience in Big Four audit for what it's worth. Any insight/advice would be helpful! Thanks!
