adityatg123 - depending on the strength of your overall profile (e.g. quality of work-ex, GMAT/ GRE score, extracurriculars etc.) some MBA programs could be looked at. For instance, this candidate joined a US Top-20 MBA program with around 2 years work-ex

Ofcourse, your career goals and other factors such as these are crucial in selecting the right B-schools, and thus, recommending schools at this point would be highly speculative. Such factors would also help determine whether an MiM or an MBA is the right fit for you.

If I were you, I would not quit the job just to apply for a master and it is not suggested by any admissions experts or admissions committees. If you intend to apply for MiM with more than 2 years of work experience; as you already there's a very slim chance of getting in.
Hence, an MBA should be and good option if you want to apply after a year with 2-4 years of full-time work experience. Look out for a US program accepting candidates with less than 3~4 work experience for your profile.

Here is a list of a few programs that can be targeted with good GMAT and 3~4 years of work experience.

  1. Berkely Hass
  2. UVA Darden
  3. Tuck Business School
  4. LBS
  5. CMU Tepper

If you intend to apply for an MBA or MiM, you can evaluate your profile with our admissions experts now.

This very year, one of my clients with a 3 year WE joined Kellogg MBA, and also had admits from Cornell & Tepper with 140K of Scholarship
Why would you even want to join MiM, given an MBA would launch you much higher in your job post your Master's program

Was just researching the eligibility requirements for MiM , and most of them have a limit that the candidate should not possess a work experience of > 2 years

If MiM is aimed at folks with [ 0- 2 ] years of work exp and an MBA ( considering that the candidate is aiming for M7 or T15 ) ideal for professionals with [4 / 5+] years of work exp , are there any other well recognised programs for folks with 3 to 4 years of works experience?

And in case if I wish to do an MiM is it advisable to quit my full time work before I hit the 2 year work experience mark and then apply a year later ( I'm not sure of anyone has even done this ) and if the admission committee would be okay with this

Hello adityatg123,

Hope this finds you well.

Please do not quit your job; instead, apply for MBA programs; there are many that would be open to your years of experience.

All the best!

Hi Adityatg123,

Firstly, it will be relevant to know, how much work experience do you have?

MBA programs do not have a minimum required work experience, however, they tend to attract applicants with 3+ years work experience. Its advisable to apply with 3+ years experience, because applicants need to build their profile and make it strong to be a part of the MBA class and contribute to it. You do not need a separate MBA of you are in the 3-4 year age bracket. Also, note the way in which learning happens in a business school. While professors are there to deliver lectures, students learn from peers through discussions, project work, clubs etc. So if you have very tightly categorized classes, then the MBA learning would not be that optimum. With three years experience under your belt, you will be good to apply to every b-school.

Secondly, any kind of gaps - education/ professional- have to be explained in the application and you should try to avoid them unless you have very genuine and unavoidable reasons. So, definitely do not quit your job to be within the eligibility criteria of a master's programme- that will actually be the worst thing you can do to your profile building. A one year gap is unjustifiable for the reasons you mention so don't make that mistake. It will always haunt you, no matter when and where you apply (MBA/MS). Also, you will lose one precious year which should go into building your professional experience.
