Hi,
I am extremely interested in making it to the top notch B Schools. Just wanted to ask about my chances at doing so.I am planning to apply for fall of 2012,so there is still a year and half to go for it.

Stats

Male, 23 years old
Indian, IT Engineer.
Graduated from Mumbai University with 69% on the scale of 100.

GMAT : 2 attempts.
1st : 650 (49 Q , 29 V , 5 AWA)
2nd: 740 (50 Q , 40 V , 5 AWA)


Work Exp: (is approximately 2 years now but will be just more than 3 by fall 2012)

Field: Pharmacy
8 Months: DVA- India.


Field: IT
1 Year: at TCS( leading IT consultancy firm) (would be 2.5 by fall 2012)
Worked with McKinsey for helping them with IT solutions.

Extra Curriculars:
Active sportsman.
Planning to work with an NGO soon.

Goal
Get MBA to pursue career in consultancy or entrepreneurship.

Assessment
Essays: Should be very good and focused

Schools of interest

Wharton
Stanford

Emory

Good for you for raising your GMAT score. That will definitely help. Since you have time before you apply, I'd advise several things in order for you to "have what it takes." First, evaluate your goals beyond a "career in consultancy or entrepreneurship." What do you really want to do with your life? Accepted recently held a webinar on "The Art of a Gripping MBA Goals Essay" that might help you in this regard. Second, take advantage of every leadership opportunity that comes your way in your professional and extracurricular activities. Build experience working with people. Finally, attend all information sessions that you can to learn more about programs at different schools. This will help you evaluate your "fit" with various schools.
