Hi rohan1093,

Thank you for reaching out and congrats on your acceptance to Rotman. Rotman is a good school and will provide the top opportunities across Canada, so if that is your goal then go for it. If you want to apply to INSEAD/top US, schools, we would likely recommend that you give the GMAT another attempt. While a 710 is strong, scoring a 730-740 would make your profile more competitive at top b-schools.

Overall, I think you've got a lot of positives in your profile but a higher GMAT will definitely help you make some of your targets more realistic. Assuming you only applied to two schools last time around, casting a wider net should give you a greater chance at success (and options). Something to keep in mind, however, is that after 6+ years of work experience, your chances of admission begin to decrease slightly each year.

Should you decide that applying to additional programs is the right move for you, feel free to reach out to scott@personalmbacoach.com to learn how we can help set you up for success. If you are interested in reapplying to LBS, Personal MBA Coach helps many reapplicants successfully navigate the application process each year (reapplicant essays are included in all of ourComprehensive Packages).

Best,
Personal MBA Coach

Hi Team,

I would be grateful if you could evaluate my profile (as below) and help address my query.

Profile
1. GMAT Score -710 (Q49, V38)
2. Under graduation- B Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Manipal University (GPA-8.7/10) (Batch of 2016)
3. Work Experience- 6 years (3 with KPMG India and 3 years of international work experience with Ernst and Young, Singapore)- Working in the technology risk consulting domain, where i advise clients to reduce IT risks in their operations. Have got promoted year on year in both my companies.

Post MBA career goals- Switch to strategy consulting from technology risk consulting, wherein i help firms with cost reduction, process enhancements through business process redesign.

4. Extra curriculars-
Founded NGO in India- where we help slum dwellers (Run drug awareness campaigns, employment drives for women in slums, and help enroll slum children in government schools)

College Tennis team captain.

Query
1. I have received an admit from Rotman in Canada. I wanted to understand with my profile is it the best option currently or could i try for other schools (Insead/ US schools) next year with my profile. I got a ding from LBS (the other school i applied to). A few key considerations are:
a. Good network and quality of education
b. Ability to move to a strategy consulting firm
c. ability to settle abroad and hopefully get my mother to live with me in the long term.

Thanks so much with your help.

Warm Regards,
Rohan

Thank You for your reply. I don't think retaking the GMAT is an option for me. Understand that top US schools would be difficult, but how about Insead? And what are my chances of a successful reapplication to LBS given my current profile and GMAT score? (LBS normally recommends students to reapply if they like the applicant's profile, but no such message was conveyed to me.

Hi again,

It's often hard to predict what someone's chances are in a competitive subset like yours, but, as mentioned, the best way to maximize your chances of success is to target a wide range of programs (think 5-8 schools). Those from consulting backgrounds often have their work cut out for them to distinguish themselves from their peers in your MBA applications.

In terms of reapplying to LBS, there are a lot of possible reasons for rejection, and it is often easier to gain admission the second time around. Feel free to check our our blog on how to improve your applications the next time around.

If you are interested in working with us, we are happy to go into more details about a strategy for INSEAD (and LBS should it interest you).

Best wishes,
Personal MBA Coach
