Figure out what you're graduating salary is likely to be and project the incremental earnings over the lifetime of your career.
I'm not absolutely certain but I do believe that the MBA is equally valuable in Canada, and potentially could set you apart more as it is a little less common.
However I would strongly recommend that you find this out by looking at who recruits at different schools. If they're spending a lot of resources in showing up at on campus recruiting, , you can be assured that they value MBAs.
More to the point in your case is that your specific career goal necessitates an MBA from the top school. I would be hard-pressed to believe that every private Equity worker in Toronto went to the US for an MBA.
With regards to the internship question, I would speak to the career services people at the different schools. You have a lot of reasons to get in touch with them already and that's just throwing one more on the heap.
Again I would be hard-pressed to believe that all the mba career switchers in Canada are screwed.
Check into the externship opportunities available, this is what they do to get something comprable to an internship while you're in school.
So go to the employment statistics, I think a lot of the questions you are asking could be answered by the career services department at some of the schools you're looking at. Because of the fact that none of these schools are in the top 50, I really do recommend that you go to one of the best ranked schools
. For financial services definitely go to Toronto schools, York or Ivey. For strategy Consulting I might broaden the range of it to HEC Montreal. So I would encourage you to get some clarity on your career goals. you might want to talk to the career services people at the schools you're considering, and have them connect you with the alums who have pursued these two different paths.
