I am 0 for 2 - neither prospective interviewer has even responded to my email. Just curious if anyone has requested to be interviewed on campus....I have a campus visit planned in a couple of weeks and thought that might be a good option, but do not want to step outside of the boundaries if that is the way it would be perceived. Anyone have any experience on this?
I had trouble contacting alumni and ended up interviewing with the ad com, which was very different because they have access to your essays and all, but not bad at all.
I disageee about their receptiveness to prospective students! I visited the schools 3 times and was very well received by all. NYU for example didnt want to receive me and said that contact is made only through interviews. Its relative to each students perception.

Yes everyone definitely has different experiences, but at NYU they have a very well organized visiting students program including class visits, coffee chats, etc. I have no idea what happened with you. I found no such program at Columbia and felt that they made me fend for myself if I wanted to participate in anything on campus. It just wasn't welcoming. Glad you had a better experience.

When did you try to visit CBS because they have all of those things run through the admissions office. The office is open 5 days a week and they arrange class visits followed by student chats at certain times on certain days. If you visited in between semesters or during a finals week then you are kind of out of luck but even during the summer classes they had classes you could visit.
Sorry to hear about the dings - are these emails coming in this morning? Or did you guys hear yesterday evening?
UPDATE: had a feeling it was coming this morning. Invited to interview! Submitted 1/7.

NYC. I actually live about 20 blocks from Columbia. Thanks in advance to all the interview advice posted - I will read through it all before contacting my potential interviewers.
So it seems they are working through these more or less in the order in which they were submitted. Have to imagine there were a number of us who submitted on the 9th just in time for the deadline, so there might be a back log in the next few days.
I submitted a day or two before the January deadline and received my interview invite this morning. There's only one alum in my area to interview with.
