I made a career transition that I think was productive and an online accounting class to supplement my light quant background, but more importantly I think extra year of WE was huge (from 39 months to 51), and I was also able to focus much more clearly on the essays and application with the GMAT completely in the rearview mirror. I also networked very hard with any and every CBS person I could contact. Friends of friends of friends, students I looked up on the website, adcom staff, alumni, friends of alumni, professors after a class visit, whomever. And followed every interaction up a thank you note (and CCing admission when appropriate). This basically amounted to showing several instances of my intense interest in the program. I also tweaked my short term goals a little bit to make them a little more of a normal post MBA track that still fit my long term goal so I came off as more employable. I also used a consultant who I thought was pretty helpful (though not cheap of course).

Yes interviewed last year, it went ok, but this year's I felt went great. Both years I had 760 GMAT and 3.5 GPA in a communications degree from a top 50 US school, 39 months WE last year to 51 this one in marketing and advertising with small businesses, last 10 months running my own marketing focused small business consultancy. Pretty well involved with one organization year round and one annual philanthropy event as far as extra curriculars.
