I talked with numerous alumni/ student (8 in total I think). Key things I focused on
>Make my post MBA goals crystal clear and detail how you have worked in previous year towards those goals. For me I want to go into I banking so i detailed how I switched my assignments to PE DD at work and how I started networking with IBs in NYC.
>Detail why NYC as much as you can
>Specifically detail how CBS is part of this transition and why it is a natural fit
>Have your rec relay the same information above
>APPLY IN ED AND EARLY---this is the biggest advice I can give for borderline applicants such as myself. Also relayed by numerous alums!!!!

Does anyone know how hard it gets to be accepted if you apply in mid-late December? Is it significantly harder, especially for an average-stat applicant like myself? I'm debating applying since it might just be a waste of my time and money based on what I've heard about their rolling admissions policy.

Sorry to hear mgh. You have plenty of other great schools on your list and as you can see from this board reapplying to Columbia is common and has success for some of us. Good luck with your future apps.

Anyone else notice the updated message on the status page?

Quote:
Please note we will begin reviewing Regular Decision applications by November 18, 2013.

It no longer says that all ED decisions will be rendered by Nov 18th. I might be reading too much into this, but interesting edit.

True - but on its website that explains the deadlines, it still says that RD apps will be reviewed, starting November 18. https://www8.gsb.columbia.edu/programs-a ... -deadlines

Right, but at least there doesn't appear to be a hard-stop for ED applicants on 11/18. Little bits of hope, thanks for pointing out.

I guess that explains my strange status. The latest update reads:

"After careful review and consideration by the Admissions Committee, we are unable to offer you admission at this time. However, we recognize the strengths of your application and would like to defer our final decision until later in the application cycle. Our intention is to have all decisions for Early Decisions applicants finalized by February 1, 2014, but your final decision may be communicated at any time before then."

I am totally confused by this status. Does it mean I am on the waitlist? Has anyone experienced this before?

I'm on the same boat. Got that status a little over a week ago. It's sort of the ED waitlist.

I received that same update today -- agree that it appears to be an ED waitlist. Seems better than being re-reviewed in RD. Anyone know how WL ED applicants have faired in the past?

Same here. Found out yesterday.

I found this thread for ED deferred applicants from 2011 & 2012: https://gmatclub.com/forum/calling-all-c ... 07795.html

I guess we can either use that old thread or this new one I created yesterday to keep each other posted. The wait just got longer: https://gmatclub.com/forum/calling-all-c ... 63154.html
