Hey All,

Some quick application advice:

It seems that a lot of applicants are under the impression they should answer the Learning Team essay in the Darden application to convey why they should choose Darden. This is a not the case. It is best to just answer the questions as posed.

Good Luck! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Hey All,

I'm a current second year Darden student. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the school, community, recruiting, etc.

As a high level summary, Darden is among the top ranked business schools, and has a strong reputation for having a General Management focus. This bodes well for consulting and general management rotational programs. Darden also does very well as an Investment Banking feeder program. That said, I'm recruiting for marketing and have just as many great opportunities (specifically for Brand Management and Mktg rotationals).

Darden is as tight knit as it gets with aprox 320 students per graduating class. Everyone tends to live nearby and build really strong bonds together. I'm sure its one of the reasons the Alumni Network is as notoriously supportive as it is. Charlottesville weather is very mild, and there are lots of outdoors activities. The local airport is only 10 min away and DC is only 2.5 hrs drive.

The curriculum is 100% case method based which drives a high level of student engagement and participation. I found this refreshing since I would probably fall asleep in a lecture based class. The school is rigorous as its reputation would suggest, but we definitely know how to blow off steam! Plus, cab rides to the main bar area (aka "the corner") are a mere $6 fare. Overall cost of living is extremely affordable. I rent a room for $467/month!

I can't say enough good things about the school. If you're on the fence, I implore you to come check it out and I'm confident that you will be impressed.

It's last years report. The PDF includes full time employment data from the class of 2012 and internship data from the class of 2013. The report does not include full time employment data from the class of 2013.

Update from Darden Admissions:

https://blogs.darden.virginia.edu/admissions/

Quote:
The Darden Admissions Committee is hard at work reading Round 1 MBA and Round 1 Consortium applications. We are enjoying learning about your stories through the application. If you applied in Round 1, we would like to give you the following updates:

You can confirm that Darden has received your application and recommendations by logging into your application status page. Your status page will indicate the date on which your application was submitted and the dates your recommendation letters were received. Your application will remain under review with the admissions committee until the decision release date.
Each application is read in random order. Therefore, the date you submitted your application has no impact on the order it is read.
We will begin extending invitations to interview on a rolling basis beginning in early November. If you are invited to an interview, you will receive an e-mail with information on how to schedule your interview. We will continue extending invitations to interview until the Round 1 decision release date on 17 December 2013.
If you are considering a visit to the Darden Grounds, we recommend you wait to see if you are invited to interview before scheduling a visit.
All Round 1 MBA applicants will be notified of their admission decision on 17 December 2013.
You can view the full 2013-2014 application timeline on our website. The Round 2 application deadline is on 7 January 2014.

Na. It's still stays submitted. I don't think it will change any time soon. International students should getting the interview invites from the mid of November.

Went through the 2011 thread over the weekend (waste of time maybe, but at least something I could do..). Seems like the invites went out a bit earlier than last year, although the decision date was later. I would guess that the first invites for people residing in the US will go out either this week or at the beginning of next week latest, and invites to those out of country (which will likely not travel to Charlottesville) will start to go out 1.5 to 2 weeks later. At that time, all invites to domestic students will have gone out, with the exception being the people that don't have to make travel arrangements (there was a guy from Charlottesville in the 2011 thread that got a really late invite).

Of course, that is just my interpretation. So don't rely on that too much :)

I just got an interview request (I'm in Washington, DC). Turned my application in the day before it was due.

My status still says "Submitted" though, so maybe don't worry about that changing!

Super excited! :-D
