I didn’t get into the detail of the question but there is a difference between only if and unless.

Unless it’s followed by the opposite statement. Consider these two examples:

1. You will get paid only if you work
2. You will not get paid unless you work.

Noticed that I had to put a negation in the second statement.

Bottom line: the two structures are not compatible and require opposite statements.

Can someone explain this to me? How is Statement 1 alone sufficient. Couldn’t the highest closing price be less than $10?

it says it was 10 on the first day

so highest can’t be less than 10, therefore lowest has to be atleast 5

Hi Tanya, am still unclear. Why couldn’t it be higher? It’s not stated that the first day is the highest.

it can certainly be higher-
if its say 20, least will be how much? 10. which is more than 5, which means we can sufficiently say that lowest closing price is atleast 5. ( 5 or more)
we take 10 as highest to assume the worst case (where lowest of closing will be 5) and still it will be atleast 5

Sorry, I meant to say why couldn’t it be lower for example 8 or 9

All the question states is the first day closing price is $10, not that the highest price is $10. Second day’s closing price could be $8 which would make Statement 1 insufficient

we assumed 10 to be highest closing price. not lowest closing price

if 10 exists, how can 9 or 8 be highest closing price

therefore how can lowest (high/2) be less than 5

thats the point
