Re: This table displays data on coffee sold by a Guatemalan producer in 20 [#permalink]
For each of the following statements, select Yes if the statement can be shown to be true based on information in the table. Otherwise, select No.

QUESTION !
1. This producer is responsible for a majority of the nation's exports of French roast coffee.

For the French Roast Coffee, (Using 'Sorted by Exports, National Share (Column 4)')

Exports (National Share) = 49%
Exports (National Rank) = 2

Since the producer only exports 49% of the total exports (also, ranks 2nd in Exports),

It's evident that this producer is NOT responsible for a majority of the nation's exports of French roast coffee.

NO is the CORRECT answer

QUESTION 2
2. This producer exports more fine-ground than coarse-ground coffee.

For the Fine Ground Coffee vis-a-vis Coarse Ground Coffee, (Using 'Sorted by Exports, National Share (Column 4)')

Exports (National Share) --- Coarse Ground Coffee = 7%
Exports (National Share) --- Fine Ground Coffee = 15%

However, Total Exports value (for both cases) is not provided, hence Absolute Values can NOT be compared.

NO is the CORRECT answer

QUESTION 3
3. The top two exporters of light-roast coffee combined export a majority of the nation's light-roast coffee.

For the Light Roast Coffee, (Using 'Sorted by Exports, National Share (Column 4)')

Rank 2 Exporter , Exports (National Share) = 32%.............(1)

It implies that
Rank 1 Exporter , Exports (National Share) > 32%..............(2)

Exports Share of top two producers = (32%) + (>32%)
= > 64%

Thus. the top two producer export >64% of the total exports. (majority share of the nation's exports of light-roast coffee)

YES is the CORRECT answer

NO, NO & YES are the CORRECT answers to Questions 1, 2, 3, respectively.

For each of the following statements, select Yes if the statement can be shown to be true based on information in the table. Otherwise, select No.

This producer is responsible for a majority of the nation's exports of French roast coffee.
This producer is ranked second with 49% share of exports wrt French roast coffee in the country. So, the producer is not responsible for majority(>50%) of the nation's exports.
Answer: No

This producer exports more fine-ground than coarse-ground coffee.
Coarse ground: 7%
Fine ground: 15%
Since, the information is given in percentage terms we cannot comment on the amount/absolute values of coffee being exported.
Hence, the information is not supported from the table.
Answer: No

The top two exporters of light-roast coffee combined export a majority of the nation's light-roast coffee.
This producer is ranked 2nd and is responsible for 32% of the exports wrt light-roast coffee.
So, the first ranked producer must be exporting more that 32% of light-roast coffee and together they are exporting the majority of the nation's light-roast coffee.

Re: This table displays data on coffee sold by a Guatemalan producer in 20 [#permalink]
This producer is responsible for a majority of the nation's exports of French roast coffee.

No, the export of french roast coffee share of this producer is 49% of the exports national share and rank 2nd, so there must be another supplier with greater than 49% share and 1st rank who export majority of French roast coffee.

This producer exports more fine-ground than coarse-ground coffee.

No, since the absolute production and export number of fine ground and coarse ground coffee is not known so this information cannot be determined.

The top two exporters of light-roast coffee combined export a majority of the nation's light-roast coffee.

Yes, the 2nd exporter i:e Guatemalan Producer export 32% of the total Light Roast Coffee, so the 1st rank exporter export share is greater than 32%.
The combined exports national share of 1st and 2nd rank is greater than 64% which is the majority of the exports national share.

IMO
NO
NO
YES

For each of the following statements, select Yes if the statement can be shown to be true based on information in the table. Otherwise, select No.

This producer is responsible for a majority of the nation's exports of French roast coffee.

Solution:
French roast contributes to 49% of total nation's export and is ranked 2nd. So it is NOT responsible for majority of nation's export.
Also, since it is ranked 2nd, the first exporter would have % share >49% and might have a majority share.
HENCE NO.

This producer exports more fine-ground than coarse-ground coffee.

Solution:
Since we do not know the total production of fine or coarse ground coffee, we CANNOT say if one is more than other in terms of absolute value.
As a %, all we know is fine ground has higher national share than coarse ground.
HENCE NO

The top two exporters of light-roast coffee combined export a majority of the nation's light-roast coffee.

Solution:
YES. Since, at 32% export, the company is ranked 2nd, the company that is ranked first would have a % share of >32%.
Hence a total of >64% national share is exported by the top 2 exporters of light roast coffee.
Hence YES

Re: This table displays data on coffee sold by a Guatemalan producer in 20 [#permalink]
(A) This producer is responsible for a majority of the nation's exports of French roast coffee.

Given data provides the following information :-

French Roast Coffee

Share in Exports = 49 percent (Rank 2)

It is inferred that there is some producer(Rank 1) , which is exporting higher than 49% of Total Exports.

The correct option will be NO

(B) . This producer exports more fine-ground than coarse-ground coffee.

Fine Ground Coffee -- 15% (national share)
Coarse Ground Coffee -- 7% (national share)

These are % values.

If Total Exports (Fine Ground Coffee) = 100 & Total Exports (Coarse Ground Coffee) = 300
Fine Ground Coffee < Coarse Ground Coffee

If Total Exports (Fine Ground Coffee) = 300 & Total Exports (Coarse Ground Coffee) = 100
Fine Ground Coffee > Coarse Ground Coffee

It can not be ascertained that this producer exports more fine-ground than coarse-ground coffee.

The correct option will be NO

(C) The top two exporters of light-roast coffee combined export a majority of the nation's light-roast coffee.

Light Roast Coffee

Exporter (Rank 2) produces 32%
So, Exporter (Rank 1) produces higher than 32%

It can be ascertained that the top two exporters of light-roast coffee combined export a majority of the nation's light-roast coffee.

The correct option will be YES

NO, NO, YES

Official Explanation

This producer is responsible for 53% of the nation’s sales of French roast coffee, but only 49% of its exports.

This producer has a bigger share of the nation’s exports of fineground coffee, but without knowing the actual amounts exported, it is impossible to tell which type this producer exports more of.

The grower shown in the table exports 32% of the nation’s light-roast coffee and is the nation’s second-biggest exporter of that type of coffee. Therefore, the biggest exporter must export more than 32%, so the top two exporters together export more than 64% of the nation’s total.
