@Khushal Mehta,
You may already know, even among the highly selective programs, deferred enrolments are a tiny percentage. Since you are still a student, and seem to be aiming for MBA programs at top brands without WE, top GMAT scores, pedigree of your college, and strong Extra-Curriculars showing your well rounded profile and leadership traits would help differentiate you better.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

I am a Civil Engineer from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (1st ranked University in Latam).

I graduated on the top 15% of my class in terms of GPA, and obtained the highest score in the graduation exam among 100+ participants.

I have experience as an engineer in the mining industry, and I also had a startup and aquired a 140k USD Government fund for Technology development.

I am pretty confident I will get a 1% top GMAT score.

I would like to apply to a business school in Europe with focus on innovation and entrepenuership, and get a 100% scolarship.

I would like to use my MBA to start a new business or to join a startup.

@Ismael tdxft,
With your kind of acads, pedigree, diversity and WE, you are underaiming in terms of MBA programs. Assuming that you can get a high GMAT/GRE score, you are therefore in a position to go for super selective programs. (Remember: High GMAT/GRE scores would be extremely helpful)
It's great however, that you have started to think about the application even before you have taken your GMAT, since crafting compelling essays and stories will take time, but are very needed to help you highlight your initiatives pitted against the challenges you have faced.

Your planned goals would need to be clearer though; well crafted description of ECs can also help you differentiate yourself.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

I was born and raised in Brunei, in a family that valued education and personal responsibility. While I worked hard academically, I was always drawn to leadership and service, joining student council and becoming a peer group helper because I cared about contributing to something bigger than myself.

I studied Engineering at the University of Manchester to learn how to build things that make a tangible difference. It trained me to think in systems, work in a structured way and understand how repeatable processes allow organisations to scale. Wanting to broaden my perspective beyond technical execution, I later pursued a Master’s in Digital Futures at King’s College London, where I explored the intersection of technology, culture and society, with a particular focus on how AI is reshaping humanity.

I am currently based in Dubai, serving as Global Lead for Innovation and Research at Kent, a global energy services company, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Operations. I led the design and global rollout of our innovation management system, aligned it to ISO standards and helped reposition the Centre of Excellence into a focused innovation and research hub. I also built a global AI network to strengthen organisational capability and guide responsible investment in emerging technologies. My approach blends structured execution with empathy, ensuring change is practical, human centred and sustainable.

I am driven by integrity, ambition and the desire to leave a lasting impact. In the long term, I hope to lead at the forefront of AI and innovation while building initiatives that expand access to knowledge and financial freedom, ensuring that technology creates opportunity for more people, not just a few.

@hlim05,
The schools you have chosen are super selective, and therefore high GMAT/GRE scores would be extremely helpful.
It's great however, that you have started to think about the application early, since a compelling story can also help you highlight your initiatives pitted against the challenges you have faced.

Your acads and WE are attractive, not merely in terms of exposure, but also because they can be aligned well to your planned goals. Well crafted mention of ECc can also help you differentiate yourself.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

@rparth04,
You may already know, even among the highly selective programs, the deferred enrolments are a tiny percentage. As such, higher scores, better pedigree of your college, and strong Extra-Curriculars showing your well rounded profile and leadership traits would help differentiate you better.

If you are planning to apply for the 2028 intake, you may already have 3+ years of WE by then, and AdComs may suggest you to apply to the regular MBA programs instead

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your profile looks strong on the surface for INSEAD and ISB, especially coming from a manufacturing + sales engineering background, which is less crowded than pure IT/consulting pools.

A 665 GMAT FE is strong. Your experience shows clear progression and commercial ownership, which schools like because it signals real business exposure, not just technical execution. The key will be showing leadership, decision-making, and influence, not just sales numbers. Your consulting pivot makes sense if you frame it around problem-solving, cross-functional exposure, and scaling business impact.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!

@Himagra,
1. Great Acads from DTU, and solid CGPA,
2. Sound Career Progression that Schools like.
3. I am assuming your LORs can come from your Bosses.
4. Can't get a sense of your Extra-Curriculars, Volunteering and/or such other differentiators.
Given your Indiam Male Engineer Status, a higher GMAT score, good Extra-Curriculars (even in college) would help you differentiate well

Overall, my sense is that through ISB you may be underaiming, esp because you may be able to shoot for global brands and greater exposure through globally recognized brand names. For INSEAD however, a higher GMAT/GRE may position you in a better spot.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

If you have just completed the MQM program, do you feel the need for another degree so soon after? Anyhow, I will address your concerns. The high GPA from the MQM should demonstrate a more recent aptitude for academic coursework, which can be considered more relevant in comparison to an older degree . In addition, you could highlight that your strong quant skills help you bring differentiation in your work output on an everyday basis. Plus your MQM GPS is quant subjects is high which further underpins your quant capability.

Reading your profile description, i felt you may be focusing a bit much on the technical aspects of your job, which is not exactly what MIT is looking for. They clearly mention they are looking for mid career managers who have a combination of leadership skills (innovative leadership) plus systems level thinking. They also have an essay on leadership in addition to a statement of purpose. Maybe too much emphasis on just the technical profile may have cost you admission the last time you applied, so this is something you could work upon for this year's application. Even your recommenders may be highlighting your technical competencies too much, so do educate them on maintaining a balance. Another area where you should let your leadership skills shine is in the resume. Many applicants tend to make this technical and focused on day to day responsibilities. Instead, it should highlight your achievements and impact framed in the context of your technical work experience.

Ultimately you will want to prove to the adcom that this degree, in addition to the MQM and your 17yrs work experience will be crucial for you to achieve some ambitious career goals.

Hope that helps. DO reach out if you want help with your application.

Hi @utk_joh

Your GPA and 325 GRE places you well in the competition for the schools you’re targeting. Even the length of your work ex is optimal and you’ve got solid business impact, career progression, and a good experience working in global teams (the fact that you’ve worked with German and UK professionals works in your favor since you’re primarily targeting European Schools). So you’ve got all the right ingredients, what matters now is how you convey this in your applications, especially in your essays.

As for your competitiveness for your target schools, you’d make a good fit at INSEAD (they generally prefer 325+ or 330+ but your application/profile can make up for this), LBS, HEC Paris (same as INSEAD in terms of score target but again your profile will compensate this, NUS (good match), Rotman (good match), ISB (strong chance). The other schools you mentioned, NTU, Imperial, and Warwick, your profile is much better for these, would be better to focus on more competitive schools as they have stronger global brand equity and hiring pipeline than these three.

Coming to scholarship, it’s very school-dependent. You need to make a good case about your need for a scholarship via the essays they ask. And your GRE score will also be taken highly into consideration here.

It's very important to strategize how you apply to these schools. We’d be happy to have a 1-on-1 discussion with you to deeply understand your profile and concerns.

Thanks for sharing your profile @utk_joh ! Let's start with what adcoms will love: 170 Quant is outstanding and shows you can handle rigorous analytics, clear promotions & leadership, hard business impact (cost savings, platform lead), product-relevant projects (trading bot).

325 GRE as a total score is decent, but if your essays/recommenders don’t explain the “why MBA > why consulting” pivot crisply, you’ll be evaluated as a strong tech hire candidate but not necessarily a top consulting applicant.

Chances:
ISB is competitive (but can have a good chance). ISB evaluates seniority, leadership, and impact heavily; your 4+ years with promotions and clear impact fit well. ISB average scores are high, but ISB uses a holistic review; strong work story matters a lot. Strengthen your short-term consulting/product plan and secure a recommender who can quantify leadership & promotion readiness.

Imperial, competitive (can have a good chance). It values tech + entrepreneurial/analytics aptitude; your technical wins and quant strength can fit Imperial’s profile and London recruitment. Aim to strengthen the overall score or show recent quant coursework.

NUS places value on tech candidates and regional fit; average GMAT/GRE profiles are slightly lower than top Euro schools, so your profile is in range if you show consulting/product clarity and indicate regional mobility.

LBS, reach, unless you improve your test score. LBS cohorts are highly competitive. With GRE 325, you’re closer to the average edge; raising your overall score (GMAT classic 720+ or GRE 330+) makes you competitive. Most of the applicants who worked with Shantanu for the recent LBS MBA Applications received interview invites.

HEC Paris, also a reach target / Possible with a higher score. HEC is selective and favors strong quantitative/leadership signals; your 170Q helps, but total score and the clear consulting pivot need stronger proof (or retake). Our recent HEC admit had 3 years of work experience and a 334 GRE score.

About scholarships, merit scholarships are usually awarded to a small fraction of applicants and are heavily correlated with class-leading test scores, exceptional leadership narratives, and unique profiles. Schools publicize merit scholarships, but competition is strong.

Your chances: With GRE 325, scholarships remain possible(not guaranteed) at schools that weigh experience and leadership more (ISB, Imperial, Rotman, NUS), but large scholarships at LBS/HEC are less likely unless you lift your overall test score or show an outstanding, rare distinguishing factor (like major entrepreneurial traction, unique diversity story, or high-impact leadership recognized externally).

Craft a good post-MBA story. Short-term (2 yrs post-MBA): be specific, example: “Strategy/Consulting Associate (tech practice) at McKinsey/BCG/Oliver Wyman OR Product Manager at a top FinTech in London/Toronto/Singapore.” Why MBA: show how the MBA gives you consulting frameworks + product/business skills (courses, career services, internships) to pivot credibly.

Speak to alumni at each school in your target geography (London, Toronto, Singapore) and ask about recruiting into consulting & PM. Use 2-3 concrete alumni quotes in the “Why X” essay. Attend school webinars/treks and record insights.

You can also package the trading-bot project as a product case: show user adoption, retention, and how you used metrics to iterate. Alternatively, lead a 3-month cross-functional product improvement at work to demonstrate product ownership.

We would love to learn more about your academic background, extracurricular activities, professional experiences, and personal journey so we can offer a more tailored assessment of your profile and evaluate your chances at your target schools more accurately. If you'd like, feel free to book a profile evaluation session with Shantanu, Founder and Admissions Consultant, MBA and Beyond

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your profile looks good on the surface. You have got a great mix of technical depth, measurable impact, and clear progression. Two promotions in 4 years at Vodafone with achievements like 50% cost savings and leading global teams show both leadership and problem-solving skills.

Your GRE should work in your favor, especially for schools that value quant strength. Your side projects and sports leadership make your profile more well-rounded which adcoms appreciate. The FinTech PM goal makes sense and aligns nicely with your background. For scholarships, schools like HEC and NUS often reward strong quant + professional profiles, so you definitely have a chance there. Overall, you’re in a competitive spot - ISB, NUS, and Rotman look realistic, LBS and HEC are solid fits, and with strong essays tying your tech achievements to your product and strategy ambitions, you can be a serious contender across your target list.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!

2. Is GMAT retake required? - I could touch 725+ as suggested by official mock scores.
3. Should I aim for January intakes of INSEAD and HEC Paris as that will not be round 3?

R3 will not be a good strategy. You may end up doing self-harm. You have a good GMAT score; can't comment about much else, as you did not share any narrative on your career till date, etc.

Hey @KSTB,
R3 is definitely riskier for applicants in general. Given your ORM status, and assuming the school may already have admitted their quota of Indian, Male, Engineers (and DFS type of profile), it may present more challenges for you. Besides, with just 3 years of experience, you have time on your hands. May I suggest start with your application now, but be prepared to listen to your consultant, who may advise after listening to your story, if applying to R1 for 27 intake may make more sense.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, you have a very strong profile. A 3.98 GPA, 705 FE score, CFA Charter, and Goldman Sachs experience across Executive Office + Private Credit investing is a serious combination. Clear progression and investing exposure align well with your PE goal. Your leadership skills also look credible, Analyst & Associate Council at GS + multiple presidencies in undergrad gives you both professional and campus leadership depth.

For Booth/Wharton/Columbia, you’re highly competitive if your story is tight. HBS and GSB are always unpredictable, but your academics + brand + PE narrative give you a real shot if essays show clarity of impact and long-term vision.

The key will be:
1. showing real investing judgment and deal impact, not just exposure,
2. articulating why MBA is needed for PE specifically
3. demonstrating personality beyond -high-achieving finance candidate.

Also, since you are applying R1 2027, planning early will really help. We’re hosting a live webinar on “MBA Application Timeline: How to Plan Early for a Stronger Application” on Feb 27, 2026 (9:30 PM IST). It breaks down when to start test prep, essays, and recommendations so you stay ahead.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!

Hi GMATUser18, This is Donna from Stratus and first of all I love that you are planning ahead and thinking about R1 applications as this is the time of year when the most successful applicants are doing their planning. I like a lot of things about your profile-- you have elite employment with Goldman Sachs and you have impeccable test scores and grades so you have all three core bases covered to make you stand out at any competitive program. The key is to share more of what drives you and motivates you and understand how these programs can help you. These next few months are the perfect time to explore your goals and motivations more deeply so that you can express yourself flawlessly when it comes time to write the essays. We have an excellent process to help people stand out in this process and I'd be glad to share more about how we help people on a free call. Here's the link for a consult: https://www.stratusadmissionscounseling ... sultation/ All three of these programs want to understand why you think they can help you so I'd spend time now meeting students and alums, visiting if you can or at least attending virtual webinars and events. All three programs are looking for focused students who know what they want and how these schools can help you get there. I have many cleitns who are in these programs and are graduates and love working with people on this mix of programs.

Hi @Dat Lam,
From ther very limited data points you have given, I see bright options for you, esp with the diversity you bring. However, there are also concerns due to the Round 3 (lower selections), lower GPA than some M7 MBA programs accept (remember though if you have self-converted your Academics to a GPA system, they can look low), and your GMAT score.

As said earlier, without more details and reference points, a generic advice would be to apply to a wider basket of programs, ensure your Professional accomplishments show your leadership (leadership can come through well even if you are an individual contributor), and the Career Goals, essays and LORs weave a compelling theme showing the need (and your readiness) for an MBA in your future growth.

Hope that helps. Please submit your profile for a Free Assessment over a 1:1 call. https://theivyleagueedge.com/index.php/contactus/

Hi, everyone

Looking for a reality check here:

Indian male, 22,
Education: Bachelors of Arts in Economics (Honours), 6.3/10 CGPA - first division from the University of Delhi (in case high school scores matter, 12th grade: 95%)
Work/internship experience: Data Analyst at S&P Global for 8 months so far, aiming to complete 2 years in June 2027 before the start of the degrees I'm targeting. 3 months at a business analyst internship at a Fortune 500 international property management MNC. 23 months heading the largest student news media organization in the country during my undergraduate.
Other: Ranked 3rd from 800 teams across the country in a management consultancy case study competition.

Planning on taking the GMAT Focus edition

Goal is to get a pathway into high finance but I feel my current credentials and a lack of work ex are dragging me down so a b school may help.

I'm aiming for the following:
MQM with finance track at Fuqua (Duke University)
Masters in Corporate Finance (Bocconi)
MSc Finance (LSE)
Masters in Financial Analysis + MiM (LBS)
MS in Quantitative Finance (NYU Stern)

What kind of score do i need to aim for in the GMAT FE to achieve my targets? I understand my undergrad GPA would drag my application down, can a good GMAT + work ex + extracurriculars cover for that? Are there any other programs I should be looking at?

Here are a few thoughts:
1. Your college GPA is indeed low and having a high GMAT score to show your academic capability will indeed help. Think of a score 705 or above.
2. Your work experience so far looks good. Take a lot of initiatives at work so that you are able to build high-quality experience. The media org experience from college sounds impressive, but continue to pursue ECAs even now that you are out of college. These help to add another dimension to your profile and also reflect your ability to contribute while on campus.
3. If I understand correctly, you wish to start the MFIN course when you have close to 3 years of work experience. In my opinion, you could start a year earlier as most programs don't require a minimum work experience (but may have a 3 year maximum work exp criterion). I feel once you are near or cross the 3-year mark, its better to apply for an MBA instead of a Master's program. In my opinion that has more value.

Hi
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your profile looks strong on the surface. Your CGPA could be a concern, but for MiF/MFA it’s not fatal if you offset it properly. Your S&P Global experience + leading a big student org + case comp result already help, now the big lever is the GMAT. You should aim for a 675+ score. A strong GMAT + about 2 yrs relevant work + leadership can compensate for grades, but only if you also prove quantitative readiness. Right now, your story should be analytics to finance decisions to IB, not just “econ grad wants finance”.

I’d be happy to offer you a free profile review for your target programs to see where you stand and how to boost your chances, happy to help!

INSEAD would need a higher score... which I am sure you are working on. Depending on some conditions, lower scores have been accepted but the higher you can get the less the score attracts attention. In terms of HC consulting - make sure you see jobs and opportunities where you can leverage your MBA. HR is a tricky area - lots of layoffs have been there and jobs are really though.

I would agree with BB on this one!
INSEAD would definitely need a higher score to get in except in some cases. I would also suggest you look at Universities around Europe since one of the hurdle in France would also be the requirement of French in most jobs (specially consulting). Netherlands/ UK / Luxembourg would be good places for seeking job opportunities.

Brand Name or University reputation is important if you are planning for consulting, so you can go for higher ranked colleges if you have a bit higher GMAT Score!

I’m an Associate Consultant at ZS Associates with ~5 years of experience (by Fall 2026) in pharma strategy consulting. I’ve worked extensively on high-impact projects for major global pharma clients, primarily within the Primary Market Research (PMR) vertical, delivering insights that support strategic decisions. Recently, I’ve also taken on a product manager–like role, leading the pilot of GenAI-powered tools for qualitative research and virtual sales rep training—an initiative that blends tech innovation with client delivery.

Academically, I graduated as a gold medalist and class topper (GPA 9.89/10) in Mechanical Engineering from Thapar University. I’ve complemented my consulting experience with online coursework, including statistics from Rice University on Coursera, and I’m currently preparing to pursue Wharton’s Business Analytics course. My GMAT score is 655, and I’m aiming to apply in Round 1 to top global programs.

I’m now looking to pivot from a niche domain into broader strategy, brand marketing, and people-facing leadership roles. An MBA is the logical next step to gain exposure beyond pharma, expand my global network, and accelerate my transition into marketing and cross-functional leadership. Outside of work, I’m passionate about sports (especially badminton), photography, sketching, and singing

Hi Sayu_x
Priyanka here from ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, you have a great background in healthcare consulting, excellent academics and a personal story that makes your application stand out. Targeting Singapore is a smart choice since schools like NUS and INSEAD offer good value and match your consulting goals. U.S. schools like Fuqua and McCombs could also work if you get scholarships.

Your story about overcoming challenges and your motivation to work in healthcare consulting is powerful and will make your essays shine.

Hi @Sayu_x , I hope you are doing well! Your strong GPA (9.89, gold medalist) and focused healthcare management consulting experience position you well for MBA programs. However, your GMAT scores (645 Focus, 640 Classic) are significantly below the averages for top schools, particularly for U.S. or competitive Singapore programs like NUS or SMU. A retake targeting an increase of 20+ points could significantly improve your chances.

Your personal story is compelling, tie it tightly to your post-MBA goals in healthcare consulting to demonstrate a clear and authentic narrative. For budget-friendly options, prioritize Singapore schools for their affordability and regional strength while considering U.S. programs offering strong scholarships like Kelley, Tepper, or Emory Goizueta.
